It’s time to build, build, build

Now that you’ve got all the things that you need, it’s time to build your double barn door.

STEP 1

Using your lumber, measure and make the following cuts:

1″x10″s:

– four pieces 84″ long

– four pieces 18 1/2″ long

1″x2″s:

– four pieces 65 1/2″ long

– leave four pieces uncut

Now, you should have 12 ready-to-assemble pieces.

(You will still have four uncut 1″x2″s)

STEP 2

Now, take two 1″x10″x84″ boards and line them up side-by-side.

Then, take a 1″x10″x18 1/2″ board, put some wood glue, and then, place it across the top.

Make sure that you secure them using your trim head screws.

Next, take one of the 1″x2″x65 1/2″ pieces and then put wood glue on one side.

Place it flush down on one side of your door.

Again, secure it with trim head screws.

Get another 1″x2″s and repeat for the other side.

Once done, take another 1″x10″x18 1/2″ and secure it at the end of your door.

STEP 3

Now, we’ll be working on that X. Ready?

Take one of the uncut 1″x2″s and place it diagonally. Once measured, cut the excess wood.

Like the others, put wood glue and secure.

Take one of the uncut 1″x2″s and lay it diagonally on the other side.

Repeat the process of matching it up and then, you need to cut the middle section.

Once done, cut, glue them in place and secure.

Now, you have that X on your door.

STEP 4

Fill up the screw holes with wood fillers.

Wait for them to dry and then, get your handy dandy sander and sand your door.

That’s it! One door down! One more to go!

Now, all you have to do is repeat all the steps until you complete the second door. Once done, you can take a photo and update your social media and take a break.

Then, you can go back and decide if you want to put a wood stain or not. Customize it! Then, once done, go ahead and admire your work. Wait for it to dry again and finish with some polyurethane.
