Man sands every inch of nightstand for beautiful restoration with honeycomb pattern
I would never think this was the same piece of furniture if I hadn't seen the whole process. This is amazing. 😍πŸͺ΅

Transforming beaten-down furniture is no easy feat.

Making an old bedside table into a luxurious design takes time, imagination, and effort.

This guy’s talent has made him popular.

Jay Zaluski, with his Youtube channel Flippingdrawers, has been giving drawers and other furniture some significant makeovers.

This time, he was trying to revive this old bedside table he found in a trash bin.

Since the original white paint needed to be removed, he used paint strippers and scrapers to slowly get rid of the color.

He then removed the hinges and holders so he can clean them for later use.

Zaluski loves to sand the surfaces.

Aside from paint stripping and scraping, he also liked to sand the whole area in preparation for the design to be put in. Some small areas were repaired as well.

For this project, he decided to create a honeycomb design that will have a color almost similar to honey itself.

The hexagonal tiles he used came from leftovers from his previous project.

Nothing’s wasted.

One by one, he placed the hexagonal tiles into the cabinet and drawer covers, as well as the top side of the table. He used wood glue and tile spacers to even them out.

This was a tedious process.

It took him a lot of time to paste each of them into the table. He also cut smaller shapes to be put to the sides and gaps.

After the tiles have been placed and the glue has dried, Zaluski used the shou sugi ban technique to add scorch on random areas and provide a more interesting color variation on the wood tiles.

After torching, he applied wax in preparation for the next step.

Tile grout to cover the gaps.

Zaluski began to place black grout to fill in the gaps in the tiles. The color will also add more texture and depth when the table is finished.

He added a few more touches and covered the areas where the nails were with sawdust and glue. Zaluski also let the tile grout dry overnight.

The following morning, he cleaned all the areas with mineral spirit and waited a few minutes to let it evaporate. He sanded a little bit more to remove other impurities and even out the surface.

With the table cleaned, he was then ready to apply the final coatings. He used a mix of 50% water and 50% Golden Pine Dye since the pure dye color was darker than what he wanted.

Applying the final coat.

Zaluski sprayed the mixture into the surface and it provide a more golden look like the honey. To finish it off, he used a Polyurethane Varnish.

He sprayed it all over the table’s surface.

The finished product looked way better compared to what it was originally.

This proves that creativity, along with patience and skill, will go a long way in these types of projects.
