A 1982 West Midlands metro bus had reached almost 700,000 miles and spent its last years serving as a school bus – it was time to retire. Just as the old bus was about to be sold for scrap metal, Adam Collier-Woods bought it online for a steal.
After buying the double-decker, Adam transformed it into the Big Green Bus – an impressive 3-bedroom retreat in the stunning English countryside
Doing all of the work himself, Adam did an incredible job of making the exterior stand out. He chose a bright green paint that is certainly eye-catching – a theme that he decided to carry on throughout the interior as well. Let’s take a look.
The seating and dining area has comfy lime green benches with colorful throw pillows.
There is plenty of room for guests to dine, relax, or play a game of cards in this welcoming space. There is even a sleeper bunk in the back, so there are lots of beds for friends and family to stay over for the night. Windows wrap around the room, providing plenty of natural light.
The table can also be removed and stowed on the bunk for extra space. It also serves as a window covering for the rear window.
Guests can stay warm by the functioning wood stove – this small stove keeps the entire bus nice and cozy! The bus also has hot water, electricity, and updated outlets.
“There’s no getting away from the fact that you’re on a bus, and a lot of the original bus fittings have been re-used throughout the quality conversion which makes it a fun and original place to spend your holiday,” the website says.
The fully fitted kitchen has all the amenities you’d need for a quick weekend away.
Cooking a meal in the galley style kitchen will make you forget that you’re staying on an old school and public transportation bus. It has a large basin sink, gorgeous wooden countertops, a stove and oven, and bright green cabinets of course. Notice the beautiful hardwood oak flooring.
Just off the kitchen is a wet room and toilet.
The bathroom is tiny, but remember – you’re on a bus! There is a fun ‘fish’ toilet and a shower as well. Adam opted for bright, colorful tile in the small space which adds a fun pop of personality.
Head upstairs where you’ll find a reading nook and three bedrooms.
“At the front of the bus, there’s a chill out space with a collection of books and board games. Featuring two of the original bus seats, it’s the ideal place to sit with a glass of wine and take in the view of the surrounding countryside,” the Big Green Bus website says.
The bedrooms consist of two rooms with double beds – and a bunk room.
One of the bedrooms has a push out window, while the other does not. Talk about a good night’s sleep!
The bunk room can be seen down the hall at the rear of the bus.
“The whole concept behind the bus was to create a space where people can holiday in beautiful countryside, enjoy nature and the peace and quiet it offers. There’s no wireless internet or TV on the bus and amplified music is not allowed on site so a stay on The Big Green Bus really is an opportunity to relax and get away from it all,” Adam says on his website.
