'Hobbitat Space' In Maryland Is Absolutely Charming
You'd never expect a bathroom like this in just 400-square-feet!

“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” Henry David Thoreau wrote in his book Walden.

Hobbitat Spaces named one of their cabins after this celebrated novel, and the 400-square-foot home certainly does this quote justice. The Walden cabin is completely surrounded by nature – a perfect place to get back to basics and ‘resign yourself to the influence of the earth.’

“Hobbitat Spaces is a small and tiny house company from Oakland, Maryland. Our goal is to create healthy, energy-efficient spaces that inspire living,” they state on their website.

Since the cabin is only 400-square-feet, Hobbitat Spaces did a wonderful job of making it feel much larger by utilizing the vertical space. Tall, vaulted ceilings give room for a sleeping loft with two twin beds and make the main living room feel super roomy.

Imagine a weekend getaway with your family, playing board games on the center island.

Not only does the island provide a place for entertaining and dining, but it also more than doubles the amount of counter space for food preparation. The kitchen features a recycled glass countertop, mini fridge, hot plate, and toaster oven. The wooden ladder leads up to the cozy sleeping loft.

A view from another angle shows a glimpse up into the loft and the main bedroom.

Chestnut beading paneling and local sawn oak flooring give the home a true ‘log cabin’ feel. While the bright red cabinetry matches the front door and adds a pop of color to the otherwise ‘natural’ room.

The seating area is situated under a reclaimed stained glass window.

The lounge area boasts a wicker loveseat with cushion and two armchairs. There might not be a giant plush sofa with a flat screen TV, but it’s a great little spot to relax after spending the day hiking through the Maryland forest.

Upstairs, the sleeping loft is tiny and simple with two twin beds.

The modest sleeping loft is the perfect spot for kids and has multiple windows surrounding the space, letting in lots of natural light and providing a great viewpoint for watching wildlife.

The main bedroom downstairs has a queen-size bed, surrounded by gorgeous Chestnut paneling.

Rest your head after a long day of adventuring by climbing into the comfy and cozy bedroom. There might not be a lot of room for anything other than the bed, but there are reading lamps, an exposed shelf for books and knick-knacks, and a push-out window for letting in a lovely cool breeze.

The spacious bathroom is by far one of the most impressive rooms in the Walden.

The bathroom is surprisingly large for the 400-square-foot cabin. It boasts a 3-foot-by-3-foot shower and an absolutely gorgeous sink with wood vanity. The walls have shifted from beaded Chestnut to white wood paneling. Built-in shelving provides storage for towels and toiletries.

From the sleeping loft, you have a wonderful view of the entire space.

“A sliding door to back porch and loft windows let in natural light showing off the old barn wood. Allow yourself to become immersed in the sights and sounds of the world around; all taken in from the back porch of Walden,” Blue Moon Rising says on their website.
