Whether you’re a mother of three or a young college graduate, we all suffer from the same beauty misfortune – Dark Under Eye Circles.

Sometimes we get these darkened rings from lack of sleep or dehydration, but many times, they’re genetic and unavoidable.

And, regardless of how many costly treatments we try in hopes to get rid of them, they just keep coming back.

While drinking more water and getting increased hours of sleep are optimistic options, below are some effective alternatives to reducing the appearance of those persistent, Dark Under Eye Circles:

Soak Tea Bags:

Caffeinated tea contains natural tannins, which assist in calming puffiness surrounding the eye. Simply soak 2 tea bags in hot water, then remove from heat. Chill tea bags in the refrigerator for a few minutes until they’ve cooled down. Once they’ve reached a comfortable temperature, place a teabag on each eye for 5- 7 minutes. When removed, you’ll uncover a refreshed, brightened look.

Arnica Flora Gel:

This herbal gel, derived from the arnica plant, is another inexpensive way to alleviate dark under eye circles. Applying the topical gel under your eyes helps to stimulate the circulation of white blood cells and reduce inflammation.

Lemon:

Lemons contain natural brightening properties that help to lighten skin. Vitamin C in the lemon juice helps to strengthen skin cells around the eye by tightening blood vessels and detoxifying pores. Using a cotton ball, carefully apply lemon juice under the eye. Let it sit for 15 minutes, until dried, then rinse.

Take an Antihistamine:

In occasional cases, some people have dark under eyes due to an unknown allergy that they have. Taking an over the counter antihistamine at night helps to clear these symptoms up overnight, enabling you to be refreshed the next morning and ready to take on the day.

Retinoid Creams:

With repetitive use, retinoid creams can be beneficial in reducing the appearance of dark circles by stimulating collagen production around the eye and providing vascular support and fullness. They are not always expensive either, as many great retinoid creams can be found at your local drugstore.

Apply Preparation H:

While some have recommended using Preparation H to combat dark under eyes, it’s not something I would recommend doing everyday. When applied correctly, the product causes blood vessels on the skin’s muscle walls to constrict, resulting in tightened skin and a reduction in swelling. Be sure that the area around your eye is completely dry and clean prior to application and be cautious to keep product away from eyes, as it could be dangerous.

In all cases, remember to apply these treatments carefully around the eye, and be mindful to keep all products and chemicals away from entering the eye itself.
