“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” We’ve all heard the saying, but how many of us have actually chosen to make lemonade when the lemons are handed our way?
One woman is a shining example of how it’s never too late to make a big lifestyle change when things aren’t quite going to plan.
Single mom Erin decided to move out of San Diego city and into a Tiny House Village in the mountains with her 10-year-old daughter.
Life hadn’t been running smoothly, and the apartment Erin and her daughter were currently living in was a little too “noisy city” for their tastes.
Erin knew it was time to reassess what she had and make a smart choice for her future. She wanted an affordable lifestyle that was full of nature for her little girl.
Naturally, tiny home living caught Erin’s attention, and before she knew it, she’d arranged to rent her own tiny home – a vibrant 320 square feet wooden property, complete with two adorable tiny lofts.
This tiny home in particular caught Erin’s eye because it was the only one with a balcony.
Erin imagined herself stargazing at night, and sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning – which she uses the balcony for nowadays.
While the outside of Erin’s tiny house is striking, the inside is more simplistic and toned-down.
Walking through the front door, you arrive in the cosy living room.
There’s no TV, but the mom and daughter duo are just fine watching movies on a laptop that they arrange on a stool in front of the couch.
The room is littered with cute artwork and positive quotes, which help to give the home a welcoming feel.
With both mom and daughter being animal lovers, but with too little space for a larger furry friend, the pair own a hairless guinea pig, who site in a cage by the front door.
The kitchen features all the typical space-saving elements of a tiny home.
There’s a pantry that stores everything from mugs to spices in mason jars, a folding table for chopping, and covers over the sink to provide more side space.
With no oven in her home, Erin uses her tiny air fryer as an oven, microwave and deep fryer. Impressive stuff!
There’s also a full-size fridge, and a number of hidden appliances, including an electric two-stove burner, a sandwich maker, and pour-over coffee set.
This tiny home’s bathroom is a pretty regular size, with a full-size bath and shower and a normal toilet.
There are two bedrooms in this home. Erin let her daughter have the larger room, which she shares with her pet California King snake.
There’s plenty of room in the little girl’s bedroom, including enough wall space to store all her stuffed animals.
Erin’s bedroom doesn’t have a typical mattress. She sleeps on something that, by day, is a corner chair.
There’s a tiny window that opens out into the balcony from her room, so Erin can head outside whenever she fancies.
She says her balcony view is “the best in the neighborhood”, though she spends most of her time looking through her telescope at the “gazillions” of stars that litter the skies at night.
If you’re tempted to drop everything and move into a tiny home, Erin and her daughter might just convince you.
Their home is the perfect blend of homely, exciting, and relaxing. You can watch a video with the full house tour just below.
