Cory just loves DIY projects. She sees the beauty in everything- and that’s probably why she calls herself an uplifter.
The young mother of three started a YouTube channel back in 2018, and she has been uploading videos of DIY projects since then, which her subscribers absolutely love.
Cory’s videos have earned more than 10 million views, while more than 100k users are subscribed to her channel.
A couple of years ago, she uploaded a video of a very interesting project.
She turned “trash into treasure” when she gave an old desk a new life, and people loved it.
The video quickly went viral with more than 300k views, and thousands of thumbs up.
So, as Cory explains in the description of the video, the desk was gifted to her by a friend, and she soon knew that she had to turn this into a DIY project.
Made in the late 1950s or early 1960s, although the desk was not an antique, it still hid an amazing surprise underneath the destroyed finish.
As she started sanding the top of the desk, she realized that the color of the wood was red- naturally.
The mom had to actually look that kind of wood up because she had never seen anything like it.
There was no artificial color on it whatsoever, and, still, it was a beautiful bright red color.
Her research led her to the conclusion that it was “redheart”.
This kind of wood can be found from Southern Mexico to Southern Brazil and Paraguay, and its hues vary from bright, watermelon red, to darker and brownish hues.
Cory then went on to take out all the drawers, removed the handles, and sanded each drawer carefully.
She then used stainable wood filler to make sure there would be no visible blemishes on the wood, and that it would get painted easily.
After that, she sanded off the wood filler, and then she was ready to paint.
She took some leftover black paint and started painting the drawers first because they would take more time than the other parts of the desk, so she wanted to get done with them and give them extra time to dry.
Cory then moved on to the other parts, leaving only the top untouched.
Once the other parts had been painted, she started working on the top of the desk.
She waxed it using two layers of wax, thus helping it return into its previous state: a beautiful, bright red wood.
She then waxed the drawers as well, to make sure the whole desk would have the same matte finish.
Finally, she cleaned the handles of the drawers, which contributed a lot to making the desk look classy and elegant again.
The end result even left Cory speechless. Indeed, she did a great job with that!
