Built in the 1800’s, a quaint log cabin sits in the beautiful natural surroundings of Geilo, Norway. The idyllic cottage is far-removed from the bustle of the city; the perfect place to just get back to the basics — or is it?
Over a hundred years after it was built, an old ‘cow-milking’ barn got a complete modern makeover while maintaining its charming, rustic exterior.
Thy tiny, storybook cabin is one of three timber houses that form ‘Hugnadheim,’ a small rental community in Norway. Now, this piece of history is available for rent on Airbnb, but don’t get too excited — weekends are booked up to 4 or 5 months out. A full week? Good luck! But at least we can take a virtual tour.
The living room of the timber home is modest, warm, and welcoming.
This particular room of the home was kept basic and simple, yet cozy and comfortable. Beautiful woods surround the entire space. It’s the ideal place to relax and warm your cheeks from the crisp Norwegian air.
The seating area is the perfect spot to warm up by the wood fire while chatting with guests. The room opens up to the dining space and kitchen.
The kitchen has two ‘pieces;’ the sink with stainless steel cabinetry is situated near the fireplace.
The flat-top range, oven, and additional counter space are on the opposite wall near a large window; imagine the incredible views while preparing dinner. The kitchen’s modern amenities are nothing you’d expect from viewing the outside of the home.
The bathroom has been completely modernized with flushing toilet, deep-basin sink, and large vanity.
Even though the cabin was originally built in the 1800’s, you’d never know it with this bathroom’s clean and modern design. The red bricks and tiled floors are a beautiful contrast to the white walls and wood paneling. The best part of the room has to be the large walk-in shower with a rain shower.
The sleeping quarters can be found by heading ‘upstairs’ to the loft space with original rafters.
Guests can find three simple, low-profile beds in the loft. The stark white walls and the handcrafted window help brighten the room and let in natural light.
If you’re planning a trip to Norway, this unique cabin should definitely be on your ‘must-stay’ list; with modern amenities, rustic charm, and a view like this? How could you refuse? View the Airbnb listing here.
