Spring and summer time is for enjoying the beautiful weather outside. The best way to enjoy the nice weather is to have some good old fashion fun playing games. You can save your funds for barbecue food by making your own outdoor games.
Here are some outdoor games that you’ll want to have at your house this summer.
Giant Slip and Slide
We’re not sure what outdoor game/activity is more fun than slipping and sliding. After all, summer isn’t summer without a Slip and Slide. Find out how to make this super elaborate one here.
If you want to make a simple one, all you’ll need is some plastic, stakes, and a hose.
Lawn Scrabble/Bananagrams
You can paint paver stones to resemble a Scrabble board and use wooden or regular tiles to make the letter pieces. You can also construct something out of wood to hold up your letters so the other team can’t see them by propping them up against a rope held up by two stakes.
You can see how Keith and Jane Crane made theirs here. You can modify this slightly to play Banagrams, here.
Glow in the Dark Bowling
Fill up some empty plastic bottles with water and toss in some glow sticks and set them up like pins. Then fill a hamster ball with some glow sticks to make the bowling ball and see who can knock down more pins. Get the instructions here.
Dunk Tank
This one is a little more elaborate to make but totally worth it if there is someone you want to dump a bucket of water on. You’ll find the instructions here.
Lawn Twister
All you need for this is spray paint cardboard and a fastener. You can find the instructions here.
Ring Toss
Ring toss is another fun and easy game you can make and play outside this summer. You can make the board with a piece of plywood and wooden dowels. The rings can be made with some rope and duct tape. Get all the details here.
Pool Noodle Javelin Throw
See who can throw the pool noodle through the target. Take some wooden stakes and put pool noodles over them. Create some noodle hoops with duct tape and tape the rings together and to the stakes. Get the tutorial on how to make this game here.
Water Balloon Dodge Ball
This game is exactly like regular dodge ball using water balloons, which you can find at the dollar store.
Cornhole
You can make a decent cornhole board with some extra plywood you have lying around. The bags can be made with some fabric and rice. Learn how to make it here.
Balloon Darts
Get a large piece of corkboard or plywood and tape balloons of different colors to it. You can assign different point values to different color balloons and throw darts at them. Whoever has the most points wins.
Popcorn Foot Race
Poke holes through a paper or plastic cup and run a piece of elastic through it so you can place the cup over your shoes. Fill the cup with popcorn and race to the finish line without spilling any popcorn. Whoever crosses the finish line first wins!
Knock Over the Can
Get some empty cans and paint them with funky colors or words. Stack them and use a tennis ball to try and knock over as many as you can.
Outdoor Pictionary
Get a piece of plywood and paint it with chalkboard paint. Use some chalk to draw something and make your friends guess what it is.
Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag
This is also like the original version except you use glow sticks as flags. Learn how to play here.
