I didn't know where she was going with the second project until I saw the bird. It turned out beautifully. 🐦😍

Don’t you love it when you discover cheap but beautiful finds?

It’s one reason we love Dollar Tree stores, right? Aside from affordable items, there are so many things that we can use to make our own projects and designs.

As long as you love art and have the time and patience, you’ll definitely find inspiration for creating your own artwork.

It’s beautiful for a buck.

Last month, Crafting with Mimi, a YouTube channel focused on creating budget-friendly crafts, posted a video that went viral.

First, she made a wall pocket.

She used a peel-and-stick tile from Dollar Tree and, more importantly, she saved the scraps for her next project.

Her husband challenged her.

He called her out on the tile scraps and challenged her to see if she could use them all, and she did.

In fact, she nailed it.

Here’s what she did for the two projects and what you’ll need to recreate them.

Don’t be afraid to get creative and add your own element of design to it to make it your own.

For the “Wall Pocket”:

  • 1 Peel and stick tile from Dollar Tree
  • White chalk paint
  • Stencil brush
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Poster boards
  • Brown and gold paint
  • Glue stick
  • Glue gun
  • Brown cord
  • Fresh or dried greens
  • One flower

Cut a square from the center.

First, cut the middle tile of the sticker and then, place old cardboard to protect your working area.

Place the tile there and, using your stencil brush, apply your white chalk paint. Let it dry.

Get one poster board and trace your white-painted tile sticker. Cut and put it aside.

Let’s fingerpaint.

Now, using your finger, apply paint on the raised areas of the inside of the sticker tile.

Use some brown on the outside, and apply some gold with more brown paint on top. Let the paint dry.

Then, once that is ready, you’re going to put some glue at the bottom and the two sides of the poster cardboard.

Put the sticker tile on top, making a little pocket.

Then, using a brown cord, apply some glue on the corners and pinch the cord inside so it would stay in place.

Place your flowers and that’s it!

So, what about Mimi’s answer to her husband’s challenge? She went old-school on him and knocked his socks off with some rustic charm.

A little bird and a rustic view:

  • Tile scraps from the previous project
  • 1 Peel-and-stick tile from Dollar Tree
  • Wall decor board from Dollar Tree
  • White chalk paint
  • Stencil brush
  • Poster boards
  • Paint (gray, dark pink, light pink, brown, gray)
  • Paper towel
  • Glue gun
  • Glue stick
  • Special napkin
  • Scissors
  • Mod podge
  • Paintbrush

She uses the same tools.

The first step is to paint the remaining tile using the same paint, brush, and method.

She also used a board that she got from Dollar Tree and did the same painting method. Wait to dry.

Once the tile is dry, get it back and start pouncing gray paint all over it to give it that rustic look.

Hit the flowers with some dark pink.

Highlight the outer parts with light pink.

Apply green paint on the leaves and then leave them to dry again. Once that’s dry, go in with the brown pouncy brush.

Go over the whole tile with brown paint, then gray. This is where you try to mute the colors to give it a faded look. Let it dry.

Grab a paper towel.

While that’s drying, use a paper towel and get your board. Using brown and gray mixed together, you’ll dab the colors on the middle part of the board.

Next, she removed the back part of the sticker and put it on top of the cardboard. Apply some glue to secure the sides.

Now, you’ll have some sort of frame with a square white middle.

Using the special tissue paper, cut out the birds and apply some mod podge glue and paste it on the middle part.

In the video’s description, she added the link where she got the tissue paper if you want to use the same kind she uses.

Mimi finished it off with some painted branches to make it look like the birds have somewhere to perch. What a sweet and perfect touch!
