People choose sides on more than just politics. Cats or dogs, creamy or crunchy peanut butter, and coffee or tea, are a few (of many) things we disagree on. But that’s okay – we all have our favs!
When it comes to putting away leftovers, do you reach for the tinfoil or plastic wrap?
If you prefer tinfoil, I don’t blame you. Plastic wrap can be a pain to use. Sure, it’s meant to be clingy – but it’s frustrating when it ends up sticking to itself, making you feel like a kid using tape for the first time.
Luckily, there’s a simple trick for making plastic wrap much easier to handle.
TikTok user @officialtiktoknurse recently shared a brilliant hack she learned from her aunt regarding plastic wrap. In fact, it kind of “blew her mind.”
The TikToker, whose name is Tara, was in the middle of prepping meals when her aunt came over.
As Tara was fighting to cover a pot with plastic wrap, her aunt stepped in with a question. According to Tara, she asked, “You know Saran Wrap’s supposed to go in the freeza, right?”
Wait, some people actually store plastic wrap in the freezer?
Like many of us, Tara likely keeps her plastic wrap in a kitchen drawer or cabinet, next to the baggies. Turns out though, that’s where we’ve been doing it wrong all these years. Keeping it in the freezer is a clever hack that makes it much easier to use.
Tara decided to put her aunt’s advice to the test.
She tossed her plastic wrap in the freezer overnight, then pulled some out. With it being cold, it seemed much easier to use. In her viral (and hilarious) video, she says:
“Bro, where have I been? It wouldn’t of unwrinkled that easily if I didn’t put it in the freezer.”
Not only was Tara’s mind exploding over the hack, but tons of other TikTok users hadn’t heard about it either.
One person wrote:
“What??? Thank your aunt for the amazing tip!”
Another commented, “Why didn’t anyone tell me this before,” while someone else said, “Who says you can’t learn anything on here? Brilliant!”
It’s not a brand new hack.
Storing plastic wrap in the freezer is a trick that’s made its way around the internet before. When The Kitchn shared it, they explained:
“The cold air cuts back on the static and lets you actually tear off the piece you want and wrap up your food without the whole thing sticking to itself.”
A BuzzFeed staff member tested out the trick after watching Tara’s video – then reported the following:
“The next day, I tried the frozen plastic wrap and IT WORKED! It was super easy to pull off and tightly stuck to a bowl. 👍”
As for Tara, she advised her 747K followers:

There are a couple of other simple tricks for making plastic wrap less of a struggle.
TODAY Food pointed out that you should use the side-tabs on the box, which are there to help secure the roll (so it doesn’t pop out).
Also, after you’re done using the plastic wrap, keep a bit of the end out and “stick it to the box’s adhesive lip.” That way, the next time you go to wrap up food, you can easily find the end.
The proper way to dispense tin foil, plastic wrap, parchment paper, etc.
I haven’t met anybody that doesn’t love a good hack, especially since they save time and energy. Perhaps this is one that’ll have you clearing a spot in the freezer (I know I will).
