A lot of travelers stay in Airbnb accommodations to save money or to have one place for their large group or family.

That used to be the main reason travelers booked Airbnb rentals.

14 years later, people also use Airbnb to stay at unique accommodations all over the world. People don’t mind paying a premium price to stay at these one-of-a-kind accommodations you won’t see anywhere else.

One woman who grew up in Boise, Idaho knows this and has built her own successful business because of it.

Kristie Wolfe built her own tiny home in 2011 to test out and try simple and deliberate living.

What was supposed to be an experiment has turned out to be a permanent part of her personal and professional lives.

She started out with The Tropical Treehouse in Hawaii in 2014, which has since been included in Airbnb’s Top Ten “Most Wish Listed” places to stay in the world. The Tropical Treehouse became so successful, it motivated Kristie to create more unique Airbnbs.

In 2016, she completed The Hobbit Inn in Orondo, Washington, which has a waitlist that can take up to a year of waiting. The Crystal Peak Lookout in Fernwood, Idaho is a restored 1950s fire lookout completed in 2018.

Perhaps her most unique tiny home would be the Big Idaho Potato Hotel in, you guessed it, Boise, Idaho.

Her latest one takes her to a very private area of Tenmile Lake in Lakeside, Oregon. It’s a boat-access-only area so the chances of running into someone accidentally are zero to nil.

This one is called The Cocoon Cottage.

She discovered the property through a friend, who was looking at properties in the same area. Her friend was looking for a lakeside property in the same area and asked Kristie to come to take a look at the area.

Kristie fell in love with the lakeside and when she saw the listing for this property, she knew it was meant to be. She went back to Oregon, this time with her mom, to view the listing and bought the property that same day.

This accommodation is unique because Kristie bought a prefab home from Iglucraft in Estonia.

She thought it was going to be easier than her other accommodations, which she had to construct herself. But it turns out shipping from Estonia to West Coast United States was more difficult and more expensive.

But when it arrived, it looked magical and like a fairy tale.

The Igluhut was already built with the electricals and plumbing fixtures. The walls and cabinets are already fitted so Kristie didn’t need to worry about that too much.

The prefab home’s interior was also simply built so Kristie was able to customize it according to her plans for the space. The major construction work she did was in the bathroom, which came with a wall that she took down. She replaced that with a glass door she customized with dried flowers and resin.

She was challenged with the shelves for the kitchen because it had curved walls.

But it did fit the minimalist look that fits well with unique Airbnbs.

She also created a two-level outdoor deck with a rustic bathtub on the top level. And on the bottom level, near the water, she also ordered an Iglusauna for those cold Oregon nights.

And she added a fire pit with a wooden bench she made herself for smores nights.

Kristie poured out a lot of her creativity and imagination into creating this rustic and cozy accommodation.
