“The history of cake dates back to ancient times. The first cakes were very different from what we eat today. They were more bread-like and sweetened with honey. Nuts and dried fruits were often added. According to the food historians, the ancient Egyptians were the first culture to show evidence of advanced baking skills. The Oxford English Dictionary traces the English word cake back to the 13th century. It is a derivation of ‘kaka’, an Old Norse word. Medieval European bakers often made fruitcakes and gingerbread. These foods could last for many months,” Food Timeline wrote on their website. “According to the food historians, the precursors of modern cakes (round ones with icing) were first baked in Europe sometime in the mid-17th century.”

Now, if you are looking for a cake recipe that’s perfect for your family, then you are at the right place.

Step 1: We will start with the eggs, separate the egg yolk from the white, put them in different bowls then set them aside for later.

Step 2: Next is the dough. In a big mixing bowl, put 200 grams or 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 60 grams of powdered sugar. Whisk to mix the ingredients well, then add 60 grams of grated cold butter, and mix.

Step 3: Add the egg yolks and knead to achieve that dough texture. Once done, divide the dough into three portions, take one portion, put it inside a plastic bag, and let it chill inside the refrigerator.

Step 4: Prepare a 20cm baking pan lined with parchment paper and evenly spread the remaining dough all over it. Set aside for later.

Step 5: It’s now time to prepare the cake’s filling. In a different mixing bowl pour 400 grams or 2 cups of sour cream, 200 grams of yogurt, 75 grams of sugar, and 30 grams of starch, and whisk to mix all ingredients well. The woman also pointed out that there must be no lumps in the mixture.

Step 6: In another mixing bowl, put the egg white and add a pinch of salt, then mix using a handheld mixer. While mixing, gradually add the remaining sugar and make sure that the outcome of the mixture is foamy. You’d know that the mixture is already good to go if it will not fall off the bowl while it’s in an upside-down position.

Step 7: Now, gradually add the yogurt mixture to the egg-white mixture, and whisk to mix well.

Step 8: Pour the final mixture into the baking pan with the dough that you have prepared earlier. Take the dough from the fridge and tear it into pieces using your hands, then spread it all over the top.

Step 9: Bake it in the oven for 40 to 50 minutes at 350°F temperature until it becomes golden brown. You’d notice the cake will rise, worry not because it will eventually settle down, don’t panic because this normally happens.
