Located in Haines Falls, New York, a cozy cabin sits away from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the outside, it appears to be dark and minimalistic, but on the inside, it’s warm, cozy, and full of glorious details.

Danielle and Ely Franko, along with their dog Bentley, purchased the 1,530-square-foot cabin two years ago with the intention of fixing it up and renting it out. They quickly learned that plans can change on a dime.

“At that point we had no emotional attachments, no idea of the work that would be required, and no real vision for what we wanted it to look like. We knew we wanted to create a space that you could go into and sit down on the couch and put your feet up and just feel content,” Danielle told Apartment Therapy.

After taking nearly a year to complete, the couple’s stunning secluded cabin was complete.

The living room features 16-foot ceilings, giant glass windows, a hanging chair, and lots of plants to bring a little nature indoors. “That living room is the reason we bought this house to begin with. It’s my favorite place to be, anywhere,” Ely says.

A view from the second floor shows just how expansive their cabin really is – plenty of room for a long wooden dining table.

With floor-to-ceiling windows, there certainly isn’t a lack of natural light. Imagine relaxing on the sofa or enjoying a meal while watching the snow fall. Being trapped indoors for winter never sounded so good when you’re in a house this beautiful.

A gorgeous wood staircase leads to the second story of the cabin. Here, you get a peek into the kitchen on the left.

When asked to describe their home in five words, Danielle and Ely replied with, “thoughtful, intimate, cozy, comfy, ours.” Details like the small plant sconces adorning the wall are truly an epitome of those five words.

The master bedroom is feminine, whimsical, and welcoming.

Danielle and Ely stuck with neutral colors, rose gold, and copper for the theme in there bedroom. A hammock sits in the corner near the window, the perfect place to nap or relax with a good book. Or just gaze out at the beautiful nature surrounding you.

“It’s soft and cozy with a touch of glamour from some blush and copper accents. The light is so soft in the morning and I love waking up in that room,” Danielle boasts.

The decor is kept to a minimum throughout the home, however, each piece that does exist was carefully thought out, picked, and placed for a reason. Using things like patterned wallpaper is a great way to create a unique accent wall.

A second bedroom is a cozy place for guests to curl up for the evening.

Ely and Danielle did all of the renovating and decorating themselves, making their home a symbol of love and pride. This tiny bedroom is an example of all of that hard work, notice the innovative and rustic clothing rod in the closet.

“Over the past two years, we’ve transformed into painters, tilers, plumbers, electricians, roofers, and carpenters. I think next time we’d outsource a bit of the work, but it was definitely a good learning experience,” she said reflecting back on the experience.

The cabin is everything the creative couple could have ever imagined, and then some. Danielle says that it’s important to realize that every adage and cliche about building a home exist for a reason – they’re true.
