Tiny living doesn’t suit everyone.
It does come with some advantages, like saving money or renting it out, but it still needs you to minimize your life and not everyone can do it.
Charlene had been a teacher for decades and she truly loved her job.
One can tell that she must have been the kids’ favorite teacher just by looking at her smile and by hearing her calm voice.
However, much as she loved her profession and the contact with her students, she recently decided to follow her father’s advice and not die as a teacher.
Her father, who died in April 2019, advised her to retire soon enough to enjoy life, so after his passing Charlene gave it a good thought and decided to follow his precious advice.
So, from April 2019 to February 2020, she looked into tiny living and did good research before finding the perfect place and buying it.
The retired teacher was married until her beloved husband died back in 2007.
The couple owned a 50-acre ranch property, which Charlene decided to keep and maintain until a couple of years ago.
The 72-year-old woman decided that if she were to retire, she would make a major change in her life.
She was going to sell the property and build a tiny in Austin, Texas, a place she had loved ever since she was a child.
Before taking us on a tour around her tiny home, Charlene explains that one must consider the 4 W’s of tiny living before deciding to move into a tiny home.
Why?
The woman explains that you need to know why you want to downsize and be sure about your decision. Otherwise, you will probably end up selling it in a couple of years.
When?
You need to find the right time to make this change in your life.
Where?
Charlene warns potential buyers of tiny homes that they first need to find where their new home will be located and then decide on the model and all the details. Otherwise, they might be in trouble.
What?
When downsizing, you should decide what is important to you model-wise. This is what you are going to look into with your designer and developer.
Now, to the actual tour, Charlene takes us through her galley kitchen.
You see, she and her husband used to be sailors, and a galley kitchen was something she was used to and wanted to have in her new home.
She opted for more storage space instead of an oven and is more than happy with that.
Her bathroom is quite small but very practical.
It comes with plenty of storage space, too, and a custom-made shower.
As for her bedroom, she loves her queen-sized bed and the cedar accent wall that gives the room a rustic feel.
Her living room features the only thing that she took with her from her old house.
It’s a large sofa, which she soon plans on replacing with something more minimal that will make the room look larger.
Finally, what Charlene loves most about her tiny home is the porch.
It features a wood-burning fireplace, where she spends countless hours with her neighbors and friends.
Charlene has found the perfect place to spend the last 25% of her life, as she says, and we are wishing that the years to come will be amazing for her.
