For many people, it’s a dream to live a more simplistic lifestyle. Whether it’s downsizing in space, getting rid of material things, or going completely “off-the-grid,” people all over the world are making the change to a more humble and eco-friendly lifestyle.

A beach house in the San Juan Islands in Washington state is the perfect blend of rustic and luxury. From the outside, it looks like a naturalistic, humble cabin, but inside, it’s a whole other story.

Prentiss Architects designed the Eagle Point Cabin which is beautifully situated at the base of the Olympic Mountains on one of the larger islands in the island group, San Juan Island. The architects’ motto is “The pursuit of balance: between natural and built environments,” and they definitely delivered.

Sheltered by the beach’s rolling hills, the Eagle Point Cabin is protected from winds and given plenty of privacy.

The natural sod roof and wood siding help the home blend into the gorgeous surroundings. When viewing the home from the beach, you’d never suspect the luxury that is hidden inside.

Stepping inside the 688-sq-ft home, the wood suddenly becomes polished, and the entire space becomes refined.

Instead of watching television, why not relax and gaze out the gorgeous wood-framed, floor-to-ceiling windows? Grab a book from the extensive bookcase and listen to the ocean waves crash.

Even though there is a wood stove to heat the home, guests rarely need to use it thanks to the abundant amount of sunlight that comes through the large windows — even in the winter.

The west-facing windows provide the perfect viewing area for nightly sunsets. Grab some binoculars to keep an eye out for migrating whales.

The kitchen is simple, yet contemporary. It features ample counter space and sleek, clean cabinets for pantry storage and to hide appliances.

Pass the kitchen, and enter the spacious, airy bedroom with equally impressive views as the main room.

Simple furnishings, tall ceilings, and large windows make the room feel much larger than it really is. Imagine going to sleep with the sound of crashing waves just yards away.

However, the real luxury lies in the Eagle Point Cabin’s bathroom complete with a huge walk-in shower and a relaxing, soaking tub.

The deep bathtub was mindfully placed near large windows with the same west-facing views. Guests can soak while enjoying the sunset, taking in the surrounding vegetation, or just simply closing their eyes and appreciating the silence.

Whether it’s the middle of the summer or in the peak of the winter season, the Eagle Point Cabin is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city without skimping on modern luxuries.
