Many people are doing what they can these days to live a more environmentally conscious lifestyle. While the trend hasn’t yet caught on in the United States, Scandinavian homeowners are outfitting their homes with green roofs to do their part.
According to Michigan State University, there are numerous environmental benefits to having a green roof, which is a roof that has vegetation on it.
It can improve stormwater management by decreasing runoff, improve water quality, conserve energy, absorb heat, provide insulation, reduce noise and air pollution, sequester carbon, and increase biodiversity.
They also look absolutely beautiful!
Each year the Scandinavian Green Infrastructure Association collects nominations for their Scandinavian Green Roof Prize which goes to the best owner of a green roof.
