So you either bought the wrong sized jeans or had a little too much fun at the buffet.

Your jeans won’t come all the way up and close anymore so you’re thinking to either buy new ones or go through all the hassle of trying to lose the weight.

But there is a way to widen those jeans to fit around your waist.

It normally won’t button and zip up even though it wraps around you somehow.

Check out this tutorial and hack by Miarti – Sewing Tips.

Lay out your jeans on a flat table and remove the sewing around the waistband and belt loops.

Proceed to cut off the entire waistband as shown, but do be careful not to rip or tear through any part of the band or the pants itself.

The jeans stretch but not the waistband.

Use your palm and place it on top of the zipper area then do the same when you lay out the waistband and cut the back part down the center.

Make a marking on where your index finger is.

Split the waistband down the middle and remove the threads inside.

Follow along and do what she does as this is tricky and requires focus.

She cuts of a portion of the waistband and attaches it to the the other end of the same waistband she just cut.

Then that part is sewn as a connection between the other two parts.

Sewing skills do come in handy here so if you’re not confident, let someone with experience handle this part for you.

That’s the spot where your palm was.

Now go grab any stretchy fabric and attach it to the top of where the sewn parts meet.

More sewing here with a machine so be careful.

Once that’s done, flip the waistband over to see the point of what you just did.

Make sure the sewing is neat and tight.

This viewer loved the hack so much!

“Oooh, thank you!! I don’t like tight waisted jeans because I have surgical scars across my abdomen, so I wear a size 10/12 for comfort. In hips, butt, thighs, I am quite smaller (about a 6 or 8). I’ve been wearing elastic waistband or even maternity pants to be able to dress without pain. Thanks for providing a way to create my own “perfect” size. I can’t wait to wear my favorite pair of jeans again.”

Now reattach the waistband onto the pair of pants.

Make sure you’re sewing it on straight and that it evens out all around or you’ll end up removing the waistband and doing it again.

See how the stretchy part falls right on top of the back yoke?
