Solid waste management is perhaps every country’s problem, wouldn’t you say?

It starts from individuals’ solid waste to a household, to a community, a city, a province, a state, a region, and up to globally.

And we dispose of solid waste every day without a miss because that’s just how things are in our daily lives.

We keep what we need and discard what we don’t.

The World Bank estimates that waste generation will increase from 2.01 billion tonnes in 2016 to 3.40 billion tonnes in 2050. At least 33% of this waste is mismanaged globally today through open dumping or burning.”

Upcycling is a great way to minimize waste and get creative at the same time.

Among her notable creations were her glass jar and cardboard tissue roll decor that earned 3 million and 1.7 million views respectively.

And just recently, she made another video tutorial of her making another home decor featuring skewers and stones.

Here’s what she used:

  • acrylic paints (with paintbrush and palette)
  • kebab skewers
  • pliers (or anything sharp enough to cut the skewers)
  • pebbles
  • glue gun
  • scissors
  • jute rope
  • permanent markers
  • ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)

You can add or change the materials according to availability and your preference.

Bring color to your front door by hanging a “Welcome” design up without spending much.

Just follow the steps below and you’re all good.

Step 1: Grab one skewer and remove its pointed part, do this to at least 38 skewers (as shown in the video) and use that as the base height for all.

Use a marker to ensure they all have a uniform height.

Step 2: Line up all the cut skewers horizontally and stick some at one side to make them stick together like a board.

This way you’d save time and energy because you don’t have to glue them side-by-side.

Step 3: Now, it’s time to paint!

Paint the skewer board according to your preference.

You might want to choose a slightly dark color like grey (like the one in the video) so that whatever design you put on it later will be noticeable and will not contrast with the skewer board’s color.

Step 4: Next, grab the pebbles and paint them. Try to mix and match. Be as creative as possible.

Choose your own design or you may also follow what Tuğba did by doing some adorable pooches as main characters in her design.

Let your imagination roam and try to utilize as much material as possible.

Come up with anything attractive. Remember, you are making a door “Welcome” design so your design needs to be inviting.

Step 5: For the finishing touches, glue the rope onto the sides. This will serve as an additional accent to your creation.

Don’t limit yourself and add more details to your creation according to your preference.
