This extremely narrow home in London is known as the “Slim House,” and for good reason – it’s only 7 feet and 7 inches wide.
On the market for around $1.4 million, this incredible home is the classic example of a “gap house,” which is an irregularly shaped home or dwelling that fits in odd empty pockets of densely settled regions. In this case, the Slim House was built in an alley that once served as stable access.
In 2013, the Slim House was redesigned by Alma-nac, and their goal was to create as much space in the narrow home as possible. When you step inside, you’ll see that they certainly accomplished their goal – and it’s stunning.
Immediately upon entering the home, you forget that it’s just 91-inches-wide.
The entryway boasts a large bookshelf that provides plenty of storage for books, pictures, and knick-knacks. There is even a built-in space to hang jackets and store shoes. As you can see, although the home is narrow, it makes up for it in length.
Just past the entryway and staircase is the cozy living room.
The open floor plan helps the space feel large and spacious. The living room features two armchairs, a sofa, and an exposed brick accent wall. Decor was thoughtfully picked out in order to avoid making the area feel cluttered. The stark white walls make the room feel bright, and the recessed lighting brightens the room when the sun goes down.
Keep walking past the living room and you’ll enter the galley style kitchen.
The long kitchen allows for plenty of counter space in a beautiful light wood. There is also a commercial-size oven and range and stainless steel refrigerator. White subway tile and white cabinetry are a stunning complement to the natural wood.
The walk-through kitchen leads you into the dining room.
The same tile floor in the kitchen flows into the dining room. There is a handcrafted wood dining table that can easily seat six to eight people. There is a large skylight that sits above the table letting the sunshine flow in.
If the weather is nice, head out the French doors, and dine al fresco.
At the rear of the Sim House, is an absolutely gorgeous garden and backyard. A path leads you to a deck and gazebo with wisteria hanging from above. It’s the perfect place to host a dinner party or enjoy your morning cup of coffee.
On the second floor, you’ll find two bedrooms, as well as a bathroom. The first bedroom features a queen-size bed.
This particular bedroom has a built-in shelf which acts as a nightstand, as well as two mounted reading lamps. Although the room is small, there is enough room for a dresser as well. The sloped wall and ceiling have two large windows which mimic skylights.
Another bedroom on the second floor has a single bed, nightstand, and bookcase. There are two picture frame windows with adorable flower boxes on the exterior. Once again, decor was kept to a minimum.
One of the home’s bathrooms has a rainshower head and simple, white fixtures. A light seafoam green tile backsplash adds a slight pop of color to the room. There is a built-in shelf under the mirror for toiletries.
The third floor of the Slim House has another bedroom and bathroom, as well as an office.
Another queen-size bed can be found on the third floor, with the same sloped wall and ceiling. The office is open, airy, and the perfect room for studying or finishing up that work project.
The second bathroom in the home is even more stunning than the last. This one features a rain shower in addition to a deep-basin soaking tub. This room was designed with a gorgeous tan and white color scheme.
