It’s almost time to freshen up your home and start your spring cleaning. Just the idea of it makes me cringe. But if you know a few tricks, cleaning up can take you half the time.
Here are 12 hacks that will make spring cleaning a breeze:
1) Toys in the Dishwasher
As long as they don’t have batteries, you can wash most plastic toys in the dishwasher. This is a great way to sanitize them.
2) Lint Roll the Lampshade
The quickest way to remove dust from your lampshade is by using a sticky lint roller on the inside and outside of the lampshade.
3) Clean Outdoor Surfaces With Laundry Detergent
Pour some laundry detergent in a bucket of water and use the mixture to clean outdoor surfaces like wood or concrete.
4) Prevent Mirror Fog
Spray some foam shaving cream on your mirrors and wipe clean to prevent them from fogging up when you use the shower.
5) Freshen Your Mattress With Baking Soda
Suck up all the yucky oils that have been absorbed into your mattress by sprinkling some baking soda over it. Let it sit there for 1 to 8 hours then vacuum up the mattress.
6) Oil Up Your Stainless Steel
Make your stainless steel appliances shine like new by rubbing them down with olive oil and wiping it off with a clean towel.
7) Use Dishwashing Pods to Clean Your Washing Machine
Toss a dishwasher tablet into an empty cycle at 60 degrees every few months to kill any bacteria in your washing machine. It’s best to place it in the drawer of your washing machine, if you can, in case it doesn’t completely dissolve. This way you can clean it up easier.
8) Rubber Gloves For Pet Hair
Wear a rubber glove and run it over surfaces to easily remove pet hair from furniture and other surfaces.
9) Clean Your Taps With Vinegar
Wipe taps down with a cloth soaked in vinegar to get rid of smears, stains, and limescale.
10) Disinfect Your Sponges
Wet a sponge and place it in your microwave on high for one minute to disinfect.
11) Garbage Disposal Cleanup
Toss some lemons, salt, and ice cubes into your garbage disposal and run it to quickly get rid of odor and residue.
12) Steam-Clean the Microwave
Place a bowl filled with 1 to 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, and a few drops of essential oil into your microwave. Let your microwave run for five minutes. You can easily wipe away any gunk when you’re done.
