Everyone loves a good DIY project, especially when they come out less than perfect. But what’s even funnier than DIY fails? Calculated, professionally made design mistakes. It’s unfortunate for the homeowners or anyone actually paying for the mistake of course, but being able to laugh at the photos online just makes us thankful it’s not happening to us.
Enjoy this compilation of 40 of the best bathroom design screw-ups!
1. A bathroom that will give you nightmares
Fogged glass windows aren’t a bad thing, but when you have kids they might be. This isn’t a painting, this is a nosy toddler trying to look through the glass bathroom door!
Our AirBnB had a translucent bathroom door. I’m used to my impatient toddler stalking me through the bathroom door, but this took it to a much creepier level.

2. Too high divider
When the stall divider is this high up, what is the point of having a divider at all? These stall neighbors would be seeing almost everything!
The dividers in this stall are way too high up. They could see my thighs.

3. Peeing with an audience
Hopefully, they are using the bathroom for extra storage otherwise this set-up is pretty strange. Either way anyone using this commode is going to be a little uncomfortable.
4. A strange toilet placement
This Airbnb host was thinking they were being clever adding a bathroom where there originally wasn’t one, but really, the landing on the stairs? They definitely didn’t think it through, since anyone coming up or down the stairs will have a nice view of whoever is on the toilet.
The ‘bathroom’ in my Airbnb will 100% result in shitty encounters with the host

5. Poor patterns
It’s an unspoken rule that you check the seat before you sit. But walking into this bathroom makes you think before you sit. There was definitely some poor planning when choosing the toilet seat cover.
6. Transparent stall doors
Whose idea was it to use a shower door as a bathroom stall door? This door may hide your identity enough, but anyone coming in can still see everything going on behind that closed door.
7. Inconsiderate decor
Not the most ideal decor for the disabled bathroom…. Whoever chose these mediocre decals didn’t put too much thought into who would be using it.
“We need to decorate the toilet for the disabled.” “Say no more”

8. Just a little too much space
When these bathroom stalls were put in, there was just a little too much space left between the wall and the stall. There’s enough space to see the toilet inside and whoever is sitting on it. It doesn’t help that the toilet is right in front of the gap.
9. Another audience
Here is another perfect example of too many chairs in a room that really only needs one chair (a toilet). No one wants an audience in the bathroom, so why is there a toilet in the meeting room?
10. These carpeted walls?
Carpeted bathroom floors are a questionable choice, mostly for cleaning purposes, but have you ever heard of carpeted walls? What is the point?
Saw the last carpet in the bathroom so I raise you CARPET WALL BATHROOM

11. A fun bathroom slide
Everyone can admit they’ve dropped their toothbrush in some pretty inconvenient places, the toilet, the trash, even the floor. This set-up at least makes dropping your toothbrush in the toilet sort of fun.
12. An interesting choice
This is a perfect example of a design looking a lot better online than in real life. Whoever chose this print didn’t think about the fact this would be going in a public bathroom, a place where people don’t really want to see brown swirls everywhere.
13. The matrix mirror
If you were trying to see if you’re lipstick smudged, good luck. This bar was going for a modern look in their bathroom but this piece of art completely defeats the purpose of a mirror.
14. Limited space
Clearly this tiny room wasn’t originally a bathroom and when they turned it into one, there was no room for a sink. But wait! Heres a great idea, just attach it to where the door!
15. Wrong way
This kind of set makes you wonder what the crew was thinking. How do you make this kind of mistake when building? Nothing would be more uncomfortable than having all three stalls taken.
16. What’s that on the floor?
Another pattern flaw. Sure there are rooms where this floor pattern would work, but the bathroom isn’t one of them. There is no doubt that this floor never looks clean.
17. A challenge
It’s not uncommon to have a toilet and a urinal in the same room, its just that usually they aren’t this close… this Reddit user couldn’t have been the only one thinking this when he walked in.
18. Not aesthetically pleasing
Not having a door on your bathroom is one thing… but having that be the first thing you see when you walk into someone’s home is a little strange. All visitors be warned.
My uncle’s house got a bathroom without a door, literally the first thing you see when you enter the house

19. The worst paint job
There are so many things wrong with the walls of this bathroom. The color. The pattern. Whoever chose this is probably having some regrets on the final product.
20. Not what you think
These could be sinks, but at first glance they look like urinals. Let’s hope whoever else thinks that learns what they are before they use them.
Guess what I thought these were when I went to the bathroom… they’re SINKS.

21. What does wheelchair accessible mean?
What is the one thing to keep in mind when designing a disabled bathroom? Maybe make it accessible to those who are in a wheelchair by not making a 5 inch step leading up to it.
22. Tight squeeze
Hotel bathrooms have a lot of weird angles, but designers make most of them work. This one on the other hand, doesn’t really work for anyone. No one is fitting in that wedge.
23. Making friends
Nothing puts more pressure on you going to the bathroom than peeing in front of people- 4 to be exact. This is probably just an overlapping an ad, but no matter what it’s advertising, its poor placement.
24. Window or a door?
Not all showers have doors, but usually they have their own closed off room. This shower just has blinds keeping everyone else from seeing in, and even worse you don’t have control of them from inside the shower.
This blind in my hotel room is the only thing hiding the shower, and it’s only accessible from outside the bathroom

25. A list of requirements
This sign was posted on the bathroom door in a store. I’m not sure what kind of store it was, but finding a disabled elderly pregnant child is probably pretty difficult. That toilet is probably never used.
26. Too many angles
This person clearly had a vision of the perfect geometric bathroom. However, their idea looks a lot better in their head than played out in this bathroom tile. The way it’s set up would confuse anyone walking in.
27. More transparent doors
Here is another example of foggy doors used in a bathroom. Used in a shower- maybe. Used in a toilet stall- definitely no.
28. More mirror art
This mirror may be worse than the matrix mirror- and in a salon no less! If you’re trying to see what your new hair cut looks like you’re better off using your front facing camera on your phone.
29. One handed sink
In theory, this is a great space savor. In practicality, this sink is the worst. We’re in a pandemic. Hand washing is important. Don’t skimp on the sink.
30. Dollhouse bathroom
This bathroom looks like it belongs in a dollhouse. So simple. So small. So pink. Not to mention it’s a little strange that the toilet is in the middle of the floor.
So my cousin bought a new house and this is one of the two bathrooms…

31. A close eye
Ever feel like you’re being watched? Anyone using this urinal would. ‘The Avengers” is a popular movie franchise but even their ads can be a little much and not ideal for a bathroom.
32. Knock, knock
You better hope that someone knocks before opening the door on you in this hotel bathroom, otherwise your knees may have a couple bruises. Hotel rooms can be small, but the door this close to the toilet is just ridiculous.
33. What sink to use
At first glance this photo looks pretty normal. After a closer look you can see there’s not one, but two sinks. Still pretty normal, until you see all the different faucets leading to one, along withthe ones attached up the wall. Who designed this?
34. Long arms
Either the person that designed this had very long arms, or this is a design flaw. Maybe the builder forgot to add a space for the toilet paper roll, and this was the easiest spot to put it.
35. Where are the dividers
Whoever installed that urinal dividers in this bathroom clearly doesn’t know what purpose they serve. I hope theres no line to use this bathroom, or there are going to be a lot of awkward interactions.

36. Wrong audience
The signs above every urinal read ‘thinking of becoming a mum?’. I can’t think of single person that would walk into a men’s restroom and ask themselves this question. Know your audience marketers.
37. Unfortunate initials
Whoever designed this truly had good intentions. It is the initials of the hotel, after all. The designed just didn’t realize their mistake until it was made into mosaic form.
38. Careful getting out of the tub
There’s nothing more relaxing than soaking in a warm bath. But it’s not an activity that’s worth risking your life over! Could they have been any more careless when placing this tub?
39. The tiniest of windows
Some old houses have weird architecture that’s difficult to work with. That didn’t stop these builders. This window looks less like a window and more like a door that would be found in ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
40. Slim toilet
New York City apartments can be cramped , but have you ever seen one so cramped it affects the size of the toilet? Better squeeze in tight to get to this toilet.
My new apartment’s toilet is so narrow that even my skinny ass doesn’t fit in it
