We’re used to associating teenagers with acne but anyone can get them really. Worse yet, they always seem to come at an inconvenient time in your life. Luckily, there are unique and simple ways to keep your face looking great for anything life throws at you.
Aspirin
Aspirin is great for acne and pimples for the same reason that it’s great for headaches– it’s got powerful anti-inflammatory powers. According to Dr. Julie Karen, an NYC dermatologist, “Crush up a tablet and add a tiny drop of water to make a paste out it and dab it on the area and let it sit for as long as you can or overnight.”
Green Tea
This might be a surprise but it turns out that green tea is actually amazing for dealing with acne. It contains properties that reduce sebum production, inflammation and bacterial growth in the skin of people who have issues with acne. It also doesn’t hurt that it tastes great as well!
Eye Drops
Shocking, yes, but it makes sense when you think about it. According to Dr. Debra Luftman, a dermatologist in Calabasas and Beverly Hills and member of the Simple skincare advisory board, “[Eye drops] act like a vasoconstrictor, which means [they] close down small blood vessels.” It won’t completely heal you acne, but it does help in reducing redness, at least for a couple hours. You can either take a cotton swab that is dabbed in eye drop liquid, or you can drop the liquid straight onto the affected area.
Honey
Honey is well known for its antibiotic properties. That also makes it great for dealing with breakouts. Just take a teaspoon of honey and dab it onto the affected areas. For widespread acne, you can make a mask by mixing half a cup of honey with one cup of plain oatmeal. Then apply the mask to your face and let it sit for 30 minutes before removing.
Chamomile
Chamomile is another wonder-ingredient that decreases inflammation and can be used to fight against acne. All you have to do is combine the contents of a chamomile tea bag with enough water into a blender to blend the mixture into a paste, and apply the paste to the infected areas. You could also steep two chamomile tea bags in one cup boiled water for 15 minutes, then let the tea cool and use a cotton swab to dab the mixture onto your face after washing it.
Yoga
Yoga works wonders for your health and can even be a great way to prevent against acne. While it might not be an immediate cure, it was a great solution if you have frequent issues with acne. Just practice everyday at home and focus on poses that increase blood flow to the face. Positions like the wheel, the bridge or the downward dog are great and can speed up healing by increasing blood flow to the area.
