Nestled in the picturesque Suffolk countryside, Tea Caddy Cottage offers a delightful blend of charm and history.
Built around 1818 by a member of the famed Wedgwood family, this unique cottage is shaped like a tea caddy, a nod to the family’s illustrious pottery heritage.
Kirsten and Joerg, the enthusiastic hosts, booked a stay and shared their enchanting experience, inviting viewers to step into a whimsical world reminiscent of “Alice in Wonderland.”
The cottage’s front door, painted in ‘Bone China Blue’ from Little Greene, immediately sets the tone for the visit.
This color not only reflects the delicate hues found in Wedgwood ceramics but also adds to the cottage’s fairy-tale allure.
As guests step inside, they are greeted by the Waterlily Bedroom, aptly named for its Clarke and Clarke ‘Waterlily’ wallpaper, which is part of the Wedgwood ‘Botanical Wonders’ collection.
The room’s decor includes stripey cushions, peacock bedside tables from Habitat, and luxurious velvet curtains from Anthropologie, creating a cozy yet elegant atmosphere.
Adjacent to the Waterlily Bedroom lies the Dining Room, a space that bursts with character.
Its bold floral and bird print wallpaper, named ‘Pavona’ by Little Greene, serves as a vibrant backdrop for the room’s antique furniture and quirky school desk.
Displayed on the walls are Wedgwood plates, proof of the cottage’s historical roots.
The built-in cupboard, is painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Number 13. Olive,’ adds a touch of timeless charm, blending seamlessly with the room’s eclectic aesthetic.
The shower room in the cottage is a perfect blend of contemporary and vintage elements.
Forest green and peacock tiles adorn the walls, creating a visually striking space.
Moving on to the ensuite bathroom, guests will find a luxurious roll-top bath, more Wedgwood plates, and plush velvet curtains.
This room, with its unique curved shape and Gothic windows, quickly becomes a favorite, offering a serene retreat after a day of exploration.
The heart of Tea Caddy Cottage is its custom-made kitchen, proof of thoughtful design and functionality.
The cupboards, painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Olive Number 13’ with a bold pink interior, create a striking contrast.
Lighting from Pooky and tiles from Bert & May add to the kitchen’s vibrant character.
This space is not only practical but also visually delightful, making it a perfect spot for cooking and gathering.
Opposite the kitchen is a larger room that exudes warmth and comfort.
With a wood-burning stove and antique furniture, this space invites guests to relax and unwind.
The room also features Wedgwood jasperware and a Lillyput Lane model of Tea Caddy Cottage, offering charming nods to the cottage’s heritage.
Large windows provide stunning views of the garden, making this room a favorite for leisurely afternoons.
The Emerald Forest Bedroom continues the cottage’s theme of blending contemporary and classic design.
Clarke and Clarke wallpaper, created in collaboration with Wedgwood, adorns the walls, while a modern bed and velvet curtains complete the look.
This room offers direct access to the garden, allowing guests to step outside and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
Practicality meets charm in the cottage’s utility room, which is equipped with a tumble dryer, washing machine, and ample storage space.
This room ensures that guests have everything they need for a comfortable stay, without sacrificing style.
The thoughtful design extends to the garden, which was crafted by a local garden designer to complement the gentle lines of the cottage.
The garden itself is a work of art, featuring roses, jasmine, and verbena that bloom in a harmonious display of colors and scents.
Its layout mirrors the cottage’s quaint charm, with winding paths, a garage, an outbuilding, and beautifully maintained hedges.
As Kirsten and Joerg wander through this serene oasis, it becomes clear that Tea Caddy Cottage is more than just a place to stay – it’s a magical escape into a world where history and beauty come together in perfect harmony.
