Target is one of those places that you could walk around in for hours before actually filling up your cart. Or maybe not, but the point is it can be a fun way of using up your time.
But whichever side you’re on, you’re probably missing out on the savings opportunities Target has to offer. Here are some secrets you’ll love.
Target has a schedule when marking down prices

And here’s that list just for you:
Monday: kids’ clothing, electronics, accessories, books, baby items and stationary
Tuesday: women’s clothing, pets, domestics, and market food items
Wednesday: health and beauty, diapers, lawn/garden items, men’s clothing and furniture
Thursday: housewares, shoes, lingerie, toys, sporting goods, decor and luggage
Friday: cosmetics, auto, hardware and jewelry
The price tag tells you how much the markdown is
The lower left of the clearance tag will tell you the original price, while the small numbers on the upper right hand corner dictates the percentage taken off for the markdown.

There’s another markdown if the tag ends in $0.06 or $0.08
If there’s still inventory left, then those items will remain on clearance for two weeks and will even be marked down further.

You can return items by mail free
Just make your way to the online return center and print out a prepaid return label. Target will cover the return shipping fees.

They have a price matching policy
Grab an item in a competitor’s ad, then bring it in to Target and watch them match the advertised price.

Mobile coupons are sent to your phone
There’s really no need to clip coupons for Target since they can be sent directly to your phone.
You can use them without having to print either. Just sign up here.

Or get coupons from the app
Target’s app gets 10 or more new coupons every week, so remember to check out your app before or during your shopping.
Just hand your phone to the cashier to get your savings.

Request for a raincheck
If you were eyeing something on sale but it ran out, you can request a rain check from Guest Services.
So when that item is restocked, you can still buy it at the sale price.

Combine Target and Manufacturer coupons
Regular shoppers can tell you to combine store coupons with manufacturer coupons for each item. That’s sure to double your savings.

Target’s mobile app
Loyal shoppers of Target advice others to use Cartwheel, Target’s mobile app. That just saves you a bundle when shopping at Target.

Go for the Target RedCard Debit Card
Racking up credit card debt can make anyone nervous, but Target offers a RedCard debit card which links directly to your bank account.
It allows the user to save an extra 5 percent every time you shop at Target.
You do have to give Target permission to collect data on your shopping habits, but at least there are no interest on charges.
No need to remember to pay your card off monthly either.
RedCard debit card holders also receive an EXTRA 30 days to return almost all items purchased on their RedCard at Target and target.com.
Check out the additional RedCard benefits here.

You can return opened makeup
Most of their beauty products bought in stores or online can be returned.
And even if they’ve been opened, you have 90 days with your receipt.

Shop via Instagram
Search #TargetStyle on Instagram, and you’ll find a gallery of cute, curated shoppable IG photos.
One click takes you directly to the Target website so you can read reviews before deciding on a purchase.

Bring your own bag
For most Targets, each bag that you bring in to shop with will have you receiving $0.05.

Find the best deals in the comfort of your own home
The greatest finds are the marked-down items on their infamous aisle end caps. You can shop the clearance section on target.com.

You’ll never run out of toilet paper again.

Get gift cards for your old electronics
Target makes it easy for everyone to trade in phones, tablets, games, consoles, and wearables.
And you get a gift card as payment in return.

Choose Target for your registry
If you’re celebrating a life event, like marriage or having a baby, Target is there for you.
Creating a registry gives you a 15% off coupon valid for one transaction at a Target store, plus a 15% promotion code valid for one target.com order.
Don’t fret when no one buys the baby crib on your list. That 15% discount is valid for all the remaining items on your registry.
It expires six months after your event date.

Shop early or late for the holidays
If you need Halloween or Christmas decorations, Easter baskets or back-to-school items, and you want them almost free, wait a few days or a few weeks after the holiday to buy.
Holiday items are cut by 50% the day after the holiday, with 30% just for candy.
After a week or so, products can go down to 70% off. Then a few days after, if there’s anything left, prices drop to 90% off, making them practically free.
Here’s a list of those days and times of year that Target offers holiday sale prices:
- Valentine’s Day
- Easter
- Summer
- Back-to-School
- Halloween
- Christmas

Use a cashback app or website
Save more money at Target by signing up for an Ibotta, Ebates or BeFrugal account.
These online programs and smartphone apps do give you money back for certain items you purchase.
Each service differs, but you do receive cash back for the items you buy.

Buy discount gift cards
Shave more off your bill by buying discount gift cards at sites like Gift Card Granny or Raise.
These gift cards are used like cash, so the bonus is that the gift card savings are an addition to whatever savings you find with coupons or sales.

Shop online instead of in-store
“My advice to save money at Target that most people don’t know — and that Target does not talk about — is that online prices are cheaper than in the store,” said Vanessa Valiente.
She’s a San Diego-based personal shopper and creator of the fashion blog V-Style.
“To get the online price in-store and save time, order the items online and then click on the ‘pick up in store’ option. If you are already in a Target store and want to get the online price, you can look up the item online and then have the cashier price match the item.” she continued.

You don’t need to buy 2 items to benefit from “2-for” pricing
Target usually labels discounted items as “2 for x-dollars,” but there is no need to buy two items to get the lower price.
These signs may have you buying more than you normally would, so stick to just one of whatever item is marked down to save.

Buy toys in January, July and December
Target does have semi-annual toy sales in January and July.
Plus they offer big discounts on toys during the holidays, so stock up on toys for birthday and holiday gifts during these months that have major markdowns.
