The tiny home movement has been spurring all sorts of creativity. People are creating these small homes out of buses, trailers, and even shipping containers.
Katie Nichols and John Walker, both developers for Numen Development, had their home built from four shipping containers by Robertson Designs.
The Cordell House was designed as an eco-friendly structure. They also used a lot of upcycled materials. For example, their driveway is paved with recycled glass.
Using the four containers gave their home an open, airy and spacious feel.
Their minimalistic decor brings a modern and elegant feel to the home.
The couple used cream and green colors in their decor to balance out the colors of the exposed container walls. The containers allow for an open-air design in the living and dining room areas that offers plenty of space to dine and relax in.
There’s enough space for an oversized table that seats six. A full contemporary kitchen that is accented with pendant lighting is adjacent to the table.
It’s filled with modern appliances and designed with lots of built-in shelves.
The minimalistic design with light colors is continued in white in the kitchen in the countertops and cabinets.
The living room boasts floor to ceiling door and windows which floods the space with natural light.
The living room is simply decorated with a few leather chairs and a small coffee table. Eventually, a couch was placed in this space.
The children’s bathroom was painted a beautiful lime green color t0 add a touch of whimsy.
Outside the bedroom are a tiny table and a cozy rug for play.
Their bathroom has a unique look with a multicolor tile design in the shower and tub. The flooring and the sink top were both made by the same wood material.
The main bedroom is simple but definitely feels like a master bedroom. It also has a cozy little nook on one side of the bedroom great for reading a book or enjoying your morning cup of coffee.
The home also uses a lot of uplighting to give a serene effect.
The bathroom off of the master bedroom is really something else. It’s filled with bright lime green tile, glass shower doors, and a doubled sink basin.
There is also a door leading outside that opens up into the shower to it also serves as an outdoor shower.
Outside the home is an oversized deck and space for grilling, playing, or relaxing.
The fourth container houses a separate guest apartment.
