What comes to mind when you think of cooking tomatoes? Are you thinking of pasta or a stew?

Have you ever thought of creating a type of bread with tomatoes? And, we’re not talking about bruschetta.

Would you like to learn how to make this tomato bread? Then read on!

These are the ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious dish.

  • 200 g tomatoes (3 small tomatoes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 300 g plain flour (1 cups + ¾ cup + 2 tbsp)
  • 6 spring onions
  • 220 g cream cheese (1 cup)

The first thing you’ll do is quarter all the tomatoes.

Blend all of them using a hand immersion blender or a food processor. Mix in the yeast before transferring to a mixing bowl.

Add in the flour and mix with a spatula or your hands. Mix until you can create a ball. Place in the bowl and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Be sure to cover it and leave it untouched.

After 15 minutes, take the ball of dough and knead it for one minute. Let it rest again for 30 minutes.

After half an hour, remove the dough and place it in your work area. It’s always best to work on a granite countertop, stainless steel, or a big wooden chopping board.

Sprinkle flour on your work area and use a rolling pin to roll out your dough. Roll it out into a very thin rectangle.

Chop the spring onions and mix in with the cream cheese. Spread this cream cheese + spring onion mixture on the tomato dough. Make sure the mixture is spread evenly all over.

Now, roll the dough like sushi and close the ends with the dough.

Sprinkle flour on the rolled dough and cut them into one-inch pieces.

Arrange them in a paper-lined steamer basket and steam for 12 minutes. It should expand in size.

Once that’s done, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat and cook the tomato bread on each side for two to three minutes.

Serve warm with a side salad or season with soy sauce.

Some really liked the addition of soy sauce at the end. They said the soy sauce made it taste even better.

And there were more suggestions to try baking it in the oven also instead of frying it. Although there were some who said baking would burn the top.

“Would have add garlic, parsley or basil + salt and pepper in the cheese and thin slices of tomato confit and raw ham after spreading the cheese cream. No soy sauce,” Lise-May Vincent suggested.
