Tiny apartments, also known as micro-apartments, are becoming more popular as real estate costs go up and living space becomes a premium, especially for those living in the city limits. One London resident, named Mike, recently moved into a tiny 150-square-foot apartment in the city and has since transformed it into the cutest mini living space.
Mike and his partner, Jesse, transformed the tiny apartment in central London after they moved in. The photo below shows how it looked just after they arrived and added some basic Ikea furniture. But six months later, the duo had added a lot of character and charm to their small mini apartment.
Tiny apartment transformed with a few easy design additions
In a new YouTube video, Mike showed his viewers around the redesigned tiny apartment, which included a tour of the wardrobe, bedroom, garden, and kitchen areas.
“I got bored of that [old] feng shui. I’m the kind of person that gets bored really easily. I need to decorate stuff around the house,” Mike said. “I just love changing stuff around the room.”
Mike created a “closet” zone right inside the front door of the tiny apartment that features a cute area rug, two Chester drawers, an armoire, and a long wall mirror. There is also a box of rarely worn clothing that is hidden underneath a fur designer rug.
Mike and Jesse’s favorite knickknacks and pictures sit atop each Chester drawer, including candle holders, skull-themed decorations, Internet router, perfume bottles, and plants, such as Mike’s favorite bonsai tree.
We have a lot of plants. We just love plants!” according to Mike.
Accent lights and throw pillows add flare
Mike added a wooden headboard to behind the bed, as well as placed accent lights behind the headboard to create a soft and soothing bedroom vibe. Also, palm-print bed throw pillows add to the plant-themed tiny apartment.
“I bought the wooden headboard to match the furniture … from Craigslist for five pounds,” Mike explained.
Next to the bedroom is what Mike and Jesse have deemed their “indoor garden,” which features a mini table and two chairs, a hanging plant, a guitar, and a boom microphone for the duo’s weekly podcast.
“We have our little garden set up. All my friends laugh because they say, ‘Wow. You move from the bedroom to the garden!” Mike said.
Little kitchen is just the right size
Moving on from “the garden,” the tiny kitchen has everything Mike and Jesse need. It includes a mini-fridge, sink, stove that sits atop the microwave, and plenty of sink space. There are also cabinets above and below the sink to hold dishes, food, and cleaning supplies, as well as hooks to hang cups from and a paneled mirror behind the sink.
Overall, Mike and Jesse are extremely happy with their tiny apartment redesign, which suits their needs exactly.
“It’s really small, but it’s really cute. I feel like it looks really cozy, and it’s really practical as well. We don’t waste storage,” Mike said.
The only complaint, according to Mike, is the traffic nearby that can sometimes be heard inside the apartment. But that’s the trade-off of city living, he added.
