Easter is just around the corner but are the decorations ready?
As we inch closer to the holiday, we should already be ready with our celebratory decorations by now.
But these are too cute to pass up.
If you find yourself lacking some decorations, especially when it comes to bunnies, boy do we have some news for you.
With just a bit of dexterity, microfiber towels, and rubber bands, this crafter will show you how easy it is to make towel bunnies.
We only need two main items.
This project requires a square microfiber towel and some rubber bands.
You can use other fabrics like cloth or wool towels but a micro-fiber towel will give you the best results.
These are optional but you can also prepare some tape, colored paper, and a pair of scissors if you want to decorate the bunny.
Welcome to towel origami
1. Fold a square towel diagonally. This means that a pair of opposite tips or corners should meet. You should end up with a triangle.
2. Pinch and crimp the upper corners of the flaps to make the ears.
3. Hold the ears side by side then tie the base of the “ears” together with a rubber band. Make sure that your rubber band is wrapped snug.
Roll the body.
4. The rest of the fabric will serve as the rest of the bunny. Spread out the base of your triangle and roll it towards the base of the ears.
5. Then, fold the roll behind the ears. You should end up with some sort of a caterpillar.
Even from here, you’ll see where this origami is going.
6. Next, wrap your fingers around the mound of cloth right under the ears. Tie and secure the “head” with a rubber band.
Now for the feet.
7. Then, tuck one side of the body under the other. Then, make two big folds so that the rest of the fabric “rolls” under the body.
8. Wrap another rubber band around the head together with the tuft of the towel under the head. This will serve as your front paws.
9. Next, pinch a tuft of the towel on the backside of the rabbit and tie it with a rubber band, too.
You now have two sets of “legs”.
So adorable!
10. You can use another rubber band to make “two front legs” by wrapping the band and dividing the tuff in two.
11. These are entirely optional but you can snip out a nose, a pair of eyes, and some whiskers from colored paper. This will make your project much more “alive”.
There you have it.
A bunny just in time for Easter.
You can also use this project to recycle towels and make them into washable toys. Instead of rubber bands, you can sew the parts to make the form permanent.
This is also an excellent way to bond with your kids while also encouraging them to be creative.
