Imagine waking up to a soft breeze and the sounds of birds chirping while surrounded by trees and nature. No, this isn’t something out of a Disney movie or other sort of fairytale.

It’s treehouse living. Nelson Treehouse and Supply creates luxury, fully functional, furnished and liveable treehouses.

The company was started by Pete Nelson, host of Animal Planet’s Treehouse Masters, in 2010. Nelson has built more than 250 amazing treehouses over the last 40 years.

One of the company’s most impressive builds is located in Seattle, Washington. A beautiful long staircase leads up to the home that is cozily nestled between two trees and has a full balcony.

“It’s sound. There could be an earthquake and a windstorm and this thing is not going anywhere,” said Garrett Potter of Nelson Treehouse and Supply.

It also includes a swinging chair underneath the treehouse which is about 17 plus feet in the air. Most of the treehouse is made from cedar.

“Standing in here it feels very much like I’m actually in a normal house,” says Bryce Langston, the host of Living Big In a Tiny House. “It’s incredible and it’s not until I actually look out the windows that I realize, yep I’m in standing in a treehouse right now.”

According to Potter, each treehouse they build is unique because the structure has to fit within the specific tree with the tree driving the design process.

When you walk into the front door of the treehouse there is a reading nook to the left which includes some hidden storage and is adjacent from an entertainment area that includes a TV.

There is a backdoor that leads oto an outdoor shower that has corrugated metal siding for privacy.

The treehouse also has a working kitchen that includes space for a mini refrigerator, a stovetop, toaster oven, microwave, and sink.

There’s shelf space throughout and a decent sized closet for storage.

The sleeping space is accessible by a rustic ladder that leads up to a large loft space that houses a queen-sized bed and has enough height to stand in. The room has several windows and skylights to illuminate the space.

“This whole area is deceivingly large,” said Potter. “You come up the ladder and you almost feel like you’re in a separate room. You can lay in bed and look right up at the canopy of the tree.”

With the engineering, steel substructure, labor and material costs, this treehouse will run you about $150,000.

If you can’t afford the cost, a less expensive option is to buy some of the pieces from the Nelson Treehouse and Supply and build one on your own. Get the full tour of the home in the video below.
