Something beautiful from something bland.

YouTube Channel Kuti Bari posted a video tutorial last Christmas that has already gotten 25M views.

The video isn’t about viral performances or Christmas topics, though. It’s about upcycling old soda bottles into gorgeous plastic vases.

Making plastic look like ceramic

Who would have thought that a simple soda bottle could turn into a vase that looks like it was bought for hundreds of dollars?

They actually look familiar because you might have seen these types of vases in hotels or offices. The only difference is that this vase was made from soda bottles.

Here’s how you can make your own vase from soda bottles.

Step 1:

Clean the bottles thoroughly, let them dry and remove the label.

Step 2:

Second, divide the bottle’s size into four equal sections. Sections 1 & 2 are the top part and the part where the label is.

Cut the fourth part (bottom part) and then the middle part. Disregard the third part.

Step 3:

Cut the bottle and remove the upper part where the bottle cap is.

Step 4:

You can now put them together and you have a small soda bottle. Set it aside.

Step 5:

Get another coke bottle. This time cut the first part of the bottle and remove the bottle cap.

Step 6:

Draw a petal-like pattern and cut it with scissors. Be careful!

Step 7:

Turn it upside down and insert it in the bottle opening of the other bottle that we made a while ago. Use your glue gun to secure.

Step 8:

Using the rubber glue, secure the body of the vase together. Paint it with white acrylic paint. Now you have the plastic vase. It’s time to decorate it.

Step 9:

In a bowl, mix chalk powder, glue, and water until you have a thick paint-like consistency.

Step 10:

Coat your plastic vase and let it dry. Once that’s done, sand it until it becomes smooth.

Step 11:

Get your acrylic paint and paint it. Finish it off with glossy varnish and let it dry.

Isn’t this vase gorgeous? From afar, you’d think it’s porcelain or clay. It also looks very heavy, but it’s not.

Now we can deck it out.

It’s up to you to decorate it according to your liking. The video showed how the artist decorated their vase.

The artist painted glue and used faux gold beads to make it look more expensive. Aside from that, using clay, they sculpted roses and painted them with the same acrylic paint.

Now it looks like something from a 5-star hotel.

We love that this project is so easy to do.

We’re just upcycling soda bottles.

It’s up to you how you will design it. Show your creativity, and the options are endless.
