Most of us remember Kool-Aid as fun sugary drink from our childhoods. But there are lots of ways you can put that sweet stuff to use in various ways around the home.
Here are 15 ways to use Kool-Aid around the house:
1) Detect a Toilet Leak
Take off your toilet tank lip and pour in a dark-colored Kool-Aid packet. Wait a half hour and flush. If there’s colored water in the bowl then you have a leak.
2) Flavored Lip Gloss
Want to add a fruity tang to your lip balm? Microwave a small bowl of Vaseline for about 30 seconds (make sure it doesn’t turn into complete liquid). Sprinkle in your Kool-aid mix well and put in a small lip balm container.
3) Get Rid of Toilet Stains
The gritty texture and citric acid in citrus Kool-Aid flavors can help dissolve toilet stains. Pour a citrus flavored Kool-Aid into your toilet bowl and use a toilet brush to scrub away stains. It will make your toilet smell fruity too.
4) Koolickle
Ever wish that your pickles could be fruity? Probably not, but Kool-Aid pickles are actually a thing. They are pickled with sugar instead of salt. Learn the recipe here.
5) Clean Your Washing Machine
The citric acid can help you clean your washing machine well and dissolve build up gunk. Just pour 1/4 cup of a citrus Kool-Aid and run your washing machine without clothes. You may need to run it more than once to get rid of all the Kool-Aid.
6) Scented Modeling Clay
Why buy modeling clay when you can make it? Most store-bought modeling clay smells weird but not if you make it with Kool-Aid. Find the tutorial on how to make it below.
7) Dye Unfinished Wood
8) Sanitize Your Dishwasher
As you’ve already heard, the citric acid in Kool-Aid helps to remove stains, gunk, and buildup. So, why not try it in your dishwasher? Pour a citrus Kool-Aid into the empty detergent compartment and run your machine on a normal cycle without dishes.
9) Colorful Yarn Dye
You can dye 100% wool or yarn with Kool-Aid. Wash your yarn in baby shampoo. Mix two Kool-Aid packets in a small container and submerge one ounce of yarn in the solution.
10) Remove Rust From Concrete
Those tough rust stains can be removed from concrete with lemon Kool-Aid. Add a few drops of water with a packet of Kool-Aid. Brush it onto the stain and scrub the stain away.
11) Dye Eggs
Give your Easter eggs a more natural look with Kool-Aid dye. Pour an envelope in 2/3 cup of water. Drop your egg in and let it submerge in the dye until it becomes the color you want.
12) Colored Window Clings
Pour a Kool-Aid packet into some Elmer’s Glue and mix it up well. Make your clings on a piece of paper. Pull them off the paper and stick them on the window.
