Vinyl records aren’t just for listening to music. There are of lots of ways you can repurpose them.

Here are 16 ways you can repurpose your vinyl records.

Vinyl Butterflies

Trace the shape of a butterfly onto your record and place your record on top of a piece of tin foil that is placed on a cookie sheet. Put your sheet in an oven that is 400 degrees. Leave it in for 45 seconds or until your record gets soft and floppy.

Quickly pull it out and use sharp scissors to cut out your butterfly. Curve it inward for a 3D effect and hang the on your wall. Get the full tutorial here.

Wall Art

Break a record and glue the pieces to a piece of painted canvas to create some wall art. See how Tattooed Martha did it here.

Record Tabletop

Glue a record to the top of a planter stand to make a cool side table.

Record Purse

Heat up three records in the oven on a tin foil covered cookie sheet. Cut out two identical shapes for the sides of your purse and create a long panel for the bottom. Drill holes along the sides of each of your pieces. Tie all the pieces together with ribbon and sew in a piece of old t-shirt fabric for the lining. Record Box

Take five record covers and punch holes along all four sides of your cover. Tie four covers together with ribbon to form a box shape and use the fifth for the bottom. Find the directions for this project here.

Record Notebook

Trace the shape of your notebook onto two records, one for the front cover and one for the back cover. Place it in the oven on a tin foil covered pan until the record becomes soft. Take it out and cut out your shape. Hot glue your piece to the cover and secure the ends and spine with duct tape. The full tutorial can be found here.

Drilling holes into a record and stick the backs of your earring through it to make an earring holder.

Record Flooring

Use a heavy duty paper cutter to cut the sides of your record and make it into a square. Tape your square together to create flooring tile. Watch the YouTube tutorial here.

Book Ends

Hold a record over a baking pan and pour boiling water over the bottom half of the record. As the record become malleable, you’ll want to bend the bottom into a shape that you can slide under your books and create a bookend shape. Get the step-by-step directions here.

Record Bowl

Cover a cookie sheet with tin foil and place it in the oven at 250 degrees. Place a metal colander in the center of the sheet and place your record on top. Place it in the oven for a few minutes until your record becomes soft. Take it out secure it with a pencil so the record doesn’t move around and shape it around the colander. Record Tote Bag

Take two pieces of plastic vinyl and put your record in the middle. Sew around the perimeter of the vinyl so the record is stuck inside. Do this a second time for the other side of the bag. Sew in some sides and a strap to finish your bag. Here‘s the tutorial.

Trace the pattern of an outlet cover onto your record. Throw it in the oven on a tinfoil covered rack and take it out once it gets soft. Cut out your pattern and screw your outlet cover into your wall. Here‘s how it’s done.
