We all know that laundry detergent is what gets our clothes fresh and clean, but did you know that there are other uses for it too?
Your laundry detergent can also work wonders in other areas of your home, not just the laundry room.
Here’s how:
Clean Up Oil Spills
Pour some powdered laundry detergent over your oil spill and then cover it with water. Let it sit overnight before spraying everything clean with water.
Clean Doors, Molding, Cabinets, and Baseboards
Mix two tablespoons of borax and liquid laundry detergent with a pitcher of warm water. Soak a sponge in the mixture and use it to wipe down your surface.
Get Rid of Soap Scum
Mix powdered laundry detergent with enough water to create a paste. Firmly your paste over the soap scum in a circular motion and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing away with hot water.
Carpet Stain
Sprinkle some powdered detergent and baking soda on your carpet stain and let it sit for a few minutes before vacuuming it away. If you have a tougher stain you can mix 2 tablespoons of liquid detergent with some water in a spray bottle. Spray the stain, let it soak in for a few minutes and blot the stain and rinse away.
Scrub Your Deck
Take a gallon of warm water, one cup of powdered detergent and 3/4 cup of oxygen bleach and scrub your deck with the solution. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before you repeat the process and rinse it off.
Hand Soap
Out of hand soap? Mix some liquid detergent and water into your squirt pump and use as you would a regular hand soap. This works well if your hands are stained.
All-Purpose Cleaner
Pour in 1/4 cup of liquid or powdered detergent into a 5-gallon jug of warm water. You can use this spray on your sinks, countertops, toilet, walls, and pretty much whatever else you can think of.
Clear a Blocked Drain
Pour 1/4 cup of liquid laundry detergent down your drain and let it work its magic for a few minutes. Next, pour boiling water down your drain. This should remove the clog.
Mop Your Floors
Pour a 1/2 of a cap of liquid detergent into your mop bucket with warm water. Make sure it is mixed well and use the solution to mop your floors.
Kill Weeds and Moss
Sprinkle powdered detergent over moss or weeds that you want to get rid of. The vegetation should discolor within a few days. Once it’s dead, you can brush it away and rinse the area with water.
Clean Upholstery
Take a gallon of water and mix in 1/2 of a cap of detergent. Saturate a cloth with your solution and scrub your upholstery.
De-grease Your Stove
Take a spray bottle and pour in some liquid detergent, bleach, and water. Shake it up so it is mixed well and spray it over your stove to get up those nasty grease marks.
