Do you have a big family or more than just yourself in your home? If so, you probably go through a fair amount of laundry detergent. And that probably means that you often find those large empty detergent bottles hanging around your laundry room.
Instead of tossing these into the recycle bin, you should hang on to them.
They are super useful when they are repurposed and can help solve a number of problems around your household.
1) Animal Lamp
Add some eyes, ears, and a light to your empty detergent bottle and turn it into a lamp that’s perfect for a kid’s room. You can also skip the light and use it as a biggy bank. Just unscrew his nose when you want to remove your money.
2) Bird Feeder
Cut a hole in the middle of your laundry detergent bottle. Poke a dowel underneath the larger hole so that the birds have a perch. Fill your bottle with birdseed to create a DIY bird feeder. You can just place it on your porch or hang it from a tree and the birds will be flocking in no time.
3) Weights
Trying to get in shape? You can tone up your muscles and burn fat by lifting weights. You can make your own strength training weights by filling up two laundry detergent bottles with water, kitty litter, or sand. You’ll be toned in no time!
4) Doll Playhouse
Let your kids save their allowance for something important and show them how to make their own toys. Create your very own custom mini doll playhouse from an old laundry detergent bottle. You can get super elaborate and fun with this. You can probably create something that’s even cooler than what you’d find in the stores.
5) Drip Irrigation
If your plant needs a slow steady stream of water to be properly fed you can create a drip irrigation device with an empty laundry detergent bottle. You can use a nail to poke holes in the bottom of your bottle place it next to your plant and fill it up with water. The water will drip out into soil so that that plant can drink slowly instead of being drowned by water all at once.
6) Tablet/Notebook Stand
Need to read a recipe while you cook, but don’t want to get your tablet or cookbook dirty? Cut out a piece of a laundry detergent bottle and use it to prop up your tablet or a book.
7) Scooper
If you need a scooper for your fertilizer, rock salt, pet waste, or pet food, you can craft one from a laundry detergent bottle. Just use a utility knife to cut it into a scooper shape. Once it gets gross you can just toss it and make a new one.
8) Sprinkler
Use your laundry detergent to sprinkle things like rock salt or seeds by poking holes into the top of the cap and filling the bottle with whatever it is you need to sprinkle. You just have to hold the bottle upside down and shake it around to sprinkle your salt or seeds. You can also use this method as a watering can that you can water your plants with.
9) Weigh It Down
Fill up your detergent bottles with some water or sand and use them as DIY sandbags or to hold down tarps or anything else that needs to be weighed down.
10) Store Paint
You can use a funnel to transfer leftover paint into a laundry detergent bottle. You’ll be able to easily pour out your paint when you need it.
12) Dust Pan
Cut your laundry detergent bottle up so that it can be used as a dustpan.
13) Book/Magazine Organizer
Cut the handle off of your laundry detergent bottles and screw them to any surface to create permanent book or magazine storage.
14) Pet Food Storage
Cut the top off your laundry detergent bottle and use it to store pet food. You can even decorate the container so it looks nice in your home and personalized for your pet.
15) Toilet Brush Holder
Cut a piece of your laundry detergent bottle off so that you can use it to store your toilet brush. You can toss it every so often and make a new one. It’s way more sanitary that the ones you’d buy and hold on to. No one wants to clean the thing the that cleans the toilet.
