Most of us have a bottle of mouthwash in our home to keep our breath fresh. But did you know that your bottle of mouthwash can do far more than that?
Well, it can! Here are some household uses for mouthwash in your home.
1) Make Flowers Last Longer
Pour a capful of mouthwash into your vase of water to kill fungus causing bacteria. This will help your flowers to last longer.
2) Dandruff
The antifungal properties in eucalyptol, which is found in most mouthwashes, prevents the growth of a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia. An overgrowth of Malassezia is what causes dandruff. Mix one part of witch hazel, one part mouthwash, and eight parts of water in a spray bottle and spritz your hair at the roots and scalp after you wash your hair to fend off dandruff. Just make sure you don’t have any open cuts, scrapes, or wounds on your head because this solution might burn.
3) Cure Athlete’s Foot
Get rid of your athlete’s foot by pouring some mouthwash onto a cotton ball and dab the infected area. The mouthwash will kill the fungus on your foot. You can also soak your feet in one part disinfecting mouthwash and two parts warm water.
4) Stinky Armpits
Pour a little mouthwash on a cotton ball and swab under your arms to prevent armpit stink. The antiseptic qualities in the eucalyptol, methyl salicylate, and thymol in your mouthwash will kill off odor-causing bacteria.
5) Clean Your Toilet Bowl
Add half a cup of mouthwash to your toilet bowl and scrub with a brush. Not only will it cleanse away the grime in your bowl but it will also make it smell nice.
6) Freshen Laundry
Pour in a cup of alcohol-based, sugar-free, artificial color-free mouthwash in your next laundry cycle to kill any germs left behind on your clothes and to disinfect your washing machine which will rid it of any musty smell left behind by stinky water.
7) Prevent Your Cat From Going to the Bathroom
If your cat is going to the bathroom where they shouldn’t you can try mixing one cup of water with three tablespoons of clear mouthwash and spraying the area. The cats don’t like the smell and will stay away.
8) Reduce the Appearance of a Bruise
Rub some mouthwash over your bruise to prevent it from becoming too dark.
9) Emergency Astringent
If you’re all out of astringent you can dab a cotton ball with mouthwash and water and rub it over your face to remove dirt, oil, and close up your pores.
10) Disinfect Your Toothbrush
Dip your toothbrush in mouthwash and let it stay submerged for about 10 minutes before you rinse it out.
