If you’ve had some plumbing or pipe work done in your home, you may have some leftover pipe insulation. If so, there is no need to toss it out.
There are lots of ways you can reuse the cushioning and insulation material around your home.
Eliminate Door Draft
Cut a slit into your foam insulation and slide it over the bottom of your door to protect your home from drafts.
Prop Paint Brushes
Place a piece of insulation over the edge of a paint tray or box. Cut some notches into your piece of insulation and tuck your brush handles into the groves so that the bristles stay out of the paint.
Ring Holder
Hot glue some pieces of fabric over a few pieces of foam insulation and place it inside of a picture frame without the glass. You can place your rings in between the pieces of foam.
Store Tarps
Fold your tarp about 2 feet length wise and tuck one end into your slit before your roll it up.
Lap Desk
Make a lap desk from a stadium seat and wrap some foam insulation around it. If you don’t have a stadium seat you can improvise!
Cover a Saw
Slide some foam insulation over the blade of your saw to protect it’s teeth as well as your skin from cuts.
Prevent Creases
Place a piece of foam insulation over your hanger. When you lay your clothes over the foam you won’t have any creases.
Packing Insulation
Chop up pieces of your foam insulation and use it in place of packing peanuts.
Make a Wreath
Bend a wire hanger into the shape that you’d like your wreath to be in and wrap some foam insulation around it and secure with tape. This will serve as the base for your wreath which you can decorate. Check out the tutorial here.
Get a Grip
Get a better grip on yard tools, like a rake or shovel, or other household items by placing a piece of foam insulation on the handle of the tool. You can use some glue to keep the insulation in place.
Smooth a Slipcover
Get a wrinkle free couch cover by pushing a piece of foam insulation over your seat cover where your the back and the seat meet. Push the foam into the seam to remove all wrinkles.
Keep Cords Together
Cut 2 inches of foam insulation and use it to hold together wrapped cords.
Secure Your Trash Bag
No one wants to pull their stinky garbage bag up out of the garbage pail. You can secure your bag in place by using some foam insulation around the edges of your garbage can on top of your bag.
Protect Your Walls From a Stool or Cart
Place some foam insulation over the hand rail of your step stool to protect your wall from damage when it’s in use.
Protect a Sapling
You can place a piece of foam insulation around the trunk of a sapling to prevent wire from cutting through its bark before you stake it.
