Imagine living in a community surrounded by like-minded people that care about sustainability, nature, and quality of life. The Cottage Company, a Seattle-based business, thrives on creating “pocket communities” with these exact goals in mind. Each community that they’ve built features similar but unique cottages, all under 1,000-square-feet.
Located in Kirkland, Washington, this beautiful cottage, designed by The Cottage Company, belongs to the Danielson Grove pocket community.
Danielson Grove is located on a quiet residential street in Kirkland, Washington, and features 16 one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes. Every home in the award-winning pocket community boasts their own private lot arranged around a large, lush courtyard.
Members of this unique Washington community, just outside Seattle, often socialize in the Danielson Grove Commons building and outdoor areas. Each home features an expansive front porch, providing yet another area for socializing or relaxing with a good book.
Although each cottage has a similar design in mind – every one has their own unique character and personality hidden inside. Let’s take a look at this stunning Danielson Grove cottage, the layout is absolutely gorgeous!
The neutral-colored living room is overflowing with elegance and sophistication.
Built-in shelves sit on either side of the home’s woodstove, providing a place for pieces of decor. The furnishings in the inviting living space include two comfy armchairs and a sofa with decorative throw pillows.
Even though the home is less than 1,000-square-feet, the open-concept floorplan makes the cottage feel much larger.
The living room flows seamlessly into the cottage’s gourmet kitchen. The entire cottage boasts large windows in every single room, providing an ample amount of natural light to brighten the space.
The kitchen is fit for a gourmet chef and features brand new full-size appliances.
A large island sits in the center of the kitchen, a perfect place for prepping food, chatting with company, or enjoying breakfast in the mornings. The Cottage Company made sure to include lots of cabinets and drawers for storage, as well as sleek appliances that complement the home’s contemporary design.
Just off to the side of the kitchen is a small but bright dining nook.
In contrast to the kitchen and living area’s stark white ceilings, The Cottage Company opted for wood panels for the ceiling in the dining nook. Low hanging light fixtures illuminate the room after the sun goes down and the window shutters are closed.
Aside from the formal living room, the cottage also has another comfy and inviting common area.
The wood paneling on the ceiling continues into this relaxing lounge room. Neutral colors continued to be the theme of this room; however, the animal print rug gives the room a bit of added character.
Near the common area, you can find the home’s generously sized laundry room.
The stacked washer and dryer help save space, while a long countertop provides the homeowners with plenty of room for folding laundry. Checkered floors give the room a little extra charm.
Access the cottage’s second floor via the elegantly designed staircase.
Well-thought-out design elements in the cottage include a skylight above the staircase, as well as built-in shelves and drawers for added storage or space for decor.
This particular home in Danielson Grove features two spacious and bright bedrooms.
Each bedroom boasts a large walk-in closet and charming decor. In each room, the architectural design elements truly speak for themselves. The master bedroom (above) has a vaulted element to the walls that lead into the wood-paneled ceilings.
The second bedroom, a bit smaller, also has a vaulted wall, but this time – with a skylight. Additional windows on the opposite wall make the small room feel much larger than it really is.
The finished loft-style attic provides the cottage with a bit of additional square footage.
The carpeted floors of the attic space make the room a great area for exercising. It could also be converted into an office, or even an additional guest bedroom utilizing a couple of twin-sized beds.
A wooden tool shed sits in the rear of the Washington state cottage.
Next to the tool shed is a small seating area for enjoying a nice glass of wine or cup of coffee during the warmer, sunny days in the Pacific Northwest.
The front porch of this charming cottage is by far the highlight.
The covered front porch is ideal for dining al fresco or socializing with friends and neighbors. Plus, the garden views are unbeatable.
