What was your very first car? Why did you pick that car to use every day?
Amber just bought her very first vehicle and it’s a 1987 Bedford Bambi camper.
It’s set on a Bedford Rascal base and allows her to move from point A to point B in the city and outside.
Did you know that there are only 1,500 units like this that were ever made?
This is a limited edition, especially since there are only 500 units running today.
It was originally designed to be a family van.
The family can take this 4-meter-long camper van on camping or road trips with the sofa bed at the back (and a baby cot on top!).
When it’s not used for trips, it can be used as an everyday car.
For Amber, it’s perfect for her needs.
Plus it was meant to be.
She just posted on a Bedford Bambi Facebook group on a Sunday if anyone was selling a van.
She got a reply almost immediately.
The next Sunday, Amber was driving home her very first vehicle, this 1987 Bedford Bambi camper van.
There were a lot of the original fixtures still in the van.
The original layout remains untouched.
The kitchen is composed of a sink on one side and a propane gas stove with a fridge right across from it just by the back door.
What’s cool is that all the owners (there have been ten of them) kept and maintained the original copper backsplash by the stove.
There are loads of storage inside the van.
There are two cupboards in the kitchen.
The one above the sink is the closet, where you can actually hang full-length dresses or pants.
On top of the stove, there is a small storage space for the pantry.
Plus there are two drawers underneath the stove.
Underneath the sofa, there are also loads of storage as well as above the sofa as well.
There’s a baby cot on the far end of the van just above the driver’s seat.
Normally, this is where the baby sleeps.
Since Amber travels alone, she currently uses it as storage for the table legs.
It’s a very simple van with a lot of possibilities.
Amber already has a lot of ideas for the renovation, which mostly include changing the wall decors, tabletops, and countertops.
We love the way she decorated the outside already.
The van was already painted purple on the outside but she added white flowers to give the van more personality.
Since it’s a 1987 van, she had to get used to a different setup for the engine, and the brakes.
She even had to learn how to start the car using the manual choke, which is the most unique part of the van.
Amber also had to get used to manual door locks and manual window cranks.
Any other person would have balked at the thought of getting used to so many manual operations in this van.
Not Amber.
Amber loves it.
She had to get used to it but once she did, she loves to drive it everywhere she could take it.
