As long as a kitchen has a stove, oven, and sink, you can cook. But if the space is outdated and dull, why would you want to? Fortunately, one woman shared some amazing ideas on how to transform an out-of-date kitchen into one you’d feel proud to make meals in for your family.
Cost-efficient projects
Not only will you discover how to change the look, feel, and even functionality of your outdated space but also how to do it on a budget. That’s right. You don’t have to spend a fortune to end up with an amazing kitchen.
Deep clean
Before anything, thoroughly clean the kitchen. Wash dirty dishes and put them away, clean off countertops, wipe down the cabinets, and don’t overlook the floor. With that done, you’ll be ready to make changes.
Tip one – replace hardware
You can buy beautiful new hardware for very little money. After unscrewing the old hardware, use fine-grit sandpaper to gently remove any scratches. Then, apply a small amount of stain that matches the existing color. When dry, install the new hardware.
Tip two – replace baseboards
If your outdated kitchen has the old stick-on rubber baseboards, peel them off. Next, use a product that removes sticky goo so you end up with a clean surface. When done, apply new rubber baseboards, tile, or conventional wood based on your preference and budget.
Tip three – remove or modify cabinets
This woman and her husband decided to remove the cabinets above the sink so they could hang a light fixture. But if you have the time and funds available, you could go a step further by removing all the cabinets. In their place, you could do opening shelving.
Tip four – paint cabinets
This task requires more time than it does money. You’ll need to remove the cabinet doors to paint them. For this, a spray painter takes less time and is much easier. While they’re drying, use a roller and brush to do the rest of the cabinets.
Tip five – install shelves
If you have wall space, install floating shelves. Not only will this enhance the appearance of your kitchen but also provide you with more space for items. Even if you only use the shelves for pictures or plants, they’ll look amazing.
Tip six – paint the floors
When painting floors, first apply a primer coat. Once that’s dry, you can go back over the floor with paint in whatever color you prefer. Just make sure you purchase a product that’s formulated specifically for this type of application.
Tip seven – add kitchen furniture
If your kitchen space allows, either build or buy a separate countertop or sideboard. When placed flush to a wall, this gives you additional space or you can put two barstools up to it where the kids can eat breakfast. Overall, it’ll enhance the aesthetics of the room.
Tip eight – Apply faux brick
This woman added a faux brick background to the same wall as the new floating shelves. This created kind of a farmhouse look and feel. These adhesive sheets come in many different colors and sizes.
