We all have this child-like dream that we always want to accomplish.
This lady’s is living gingerbread style.
No matter the age, there’s one thing we want to do or get to satisfy our young hearts.
Be it a toy we always wanted when we were kids but could never have, or an obsession with that people think is beyond our age.
Tamera Holland’s dream began with a gingerbread doll.
She went into an antique store and saw this gingerbread lady for $45. Her husband was hesitant to give her that much money for a doll, but he saw how it made her happy, so he gave in.
What he didn’t know was it would become an obsession.
A big obsession.
She started baking gingerbread cookies and loved the spice right away.
Tamera started adding ginger to almost anything she cooked. She loves the taste and aroma it has on her food, especially in her cookies.
She bakes over 300 gingerbread man cookies every Christmas – that’s not counting the gingerbread houses she made, too!
Tamera also smokes ginger.
She does this as an aid to stay away from cigarettes.
Instead of smoking tobacco, she smokes dried ginger. She started chopping ginger and left it out in the sun to dry. She then wraps the dried ginger into a cigarette.
She also uses ginger as aromatherapy.
Tamera’s house is filled with gingerbread-themed items amounting to almost $3,000.
From wall decor and potholders to pantry containers and more dolls.
Her daughter, Tiffany King, even gave her a cuckoo clock, but instead of a bird that comes out of it (you guessed it!), it’s a gingerbread ma.
But Tamera is not done with this yet.
There’s still something missing.
Her collection might be extensive, but her love for everything gingerbread would never be complete without a gingerbread house.
So, she planned on making that dream come true.
She saved $4,000 to fulfill her gingerbread dream.
She did it over a period of 3 years, always keeping that dream at the forefront of her mind.
She contacted a local contractor and talked about her vision, that the color should be the right kind of brown, between golden or honey brown.
“It’s very important to get the right shade of gingerbread because I feel like if you get the right shade, it’s gonna be enticing. It’s gonna be like you’d want to take off a piece and eat it,” she told TLC UK.
And to achieve that, she brought the perfect example.
A gingerbread house model.
Instead of the usual paint swatches, she brought him an edible visual aid: a gingerbread house that she baked.
That was the perfect way to show him what she liked, and the contractor delivered. Tamera got the home that she had always dreamed of.
However, her daughter had other plans.
Tiffany put up a bunch of decorations and other designs that pull the gingerbread house feel together outside her mother’s house while she was away.
And when it was time to go home, she went and picked her up, blindfolded her, and drove her home. They arrived in front of the house, and the big reveal came.
