Adam and Nikki, a young couple from the UK, found it increasingly difficult to afford climbing rent costs, so — they decided to take matters into their own hands.
The couple was sick of spending all of their money on rent and bills; after everything was paid for, they had nothing left for themselves. Adam and Nikki were sick of the rat race and wanted to get out — how they did it is nothing short of extraordinary.
The couple purchased a white Ford Transit Luton for $4,500 on eBay and would spend the next year, and $6,500, converting it into the tiny home of their dreams.
In a million years, you’d never guess that a van like this could be transformed into a living space with a kitchen, toilet, shower, bedroom, and even a porch. However, with a dream and little elbow grease — Adam and Nikki prove that anything is possible.
Roll open the van’s back door, and you’ll find the entrance to their unique home, including a small porch.
By far one of the most unassuming homes we’ve ever seen; the inside of this van boasts ingenious ideas full of creativity and cleverness. You might want to take notes from this young couple; they seem to be living the dream.
Once inside the ‘front door,’ you enter the small but fully-functional living space.
From the entrance, you can see the kitchen to the left, a small seating area, the sleeping loft toward the back, and a woodstove to keep the unit warm during chilly nights and colder seasons.
The kitchen features a small four-burner stove top, mini fridge, and sink. They made sure to build in lots of cabinets and shelves for storage.
Since the home is a van, after all, it is not connected to a main water supply; however, there is a small tank of water for the sink, allowing the couple to fill up their kettle for a nice cup of coffee or tea.
The small bathroom in the van home features a small toilet and a shower.
“The shower is powered by a separate 12v pump that sits in a bucket of water that can be warmed up on the stove. The toilet is a cassette toilet that pulls out to be emptied when its full,” the couple explains on their website.
The comfy seating area is small but cozy; the cushions, throw pillows, and faux-fur blankets are a wonderful ‘homey’ touch.
From this view, you can see the hidden storage underneath the sofa, and the small library they’ve created with the built-n shelves.
Adam and Nikki’s ‘bedroom’ is a sleeping loft tucked up above the cab of the van.
Although the quarters are tight, it’s the perfect amount of space for the young couple; because really, what more do you really need?
“Through this project, I aim to test the simple life and to find happiness in experiences and people rather than possessions,” Adam says. Take a full tour of their incredible home on wheels in the video below.
