Here are 10 awesome decluttering tips that are perfect for super busy people.

These tips from Picky Stitch will have your home organized and decluttered in no time.

1. Baby steps!

It can be overwhelming to think about tackling the task of cleaning your entire home. So, instead, just think about one small area at a time. It could be as small as a drawer or a cabinet, or even a small room like a closet or loft.

2. Watch what you’re buying

Do you really need to buy that new pair of jeans that you saw on your lunch break? Your kids want the latest toy, should they maybe throw out one of their old ones? Think about what you’re spending your money on, and if it’s truly something you need to bring into your home. Is it useful or will it just cause more clutter?

3. Make a ‘nothing allowed on the floor’ rule

Establish a rule in your household that nothing goes on the floor (except for the obvious pieces of furniture and decor). Keeping items off of your floor will create the appearance of a cleaner, less cluttered space.

4. Is it really worth displaying?

Sure, that souvenir from that trip to Disneyland five years is adorable, but does it really need to be displayed on your bookshelf? Knick-knacks and souvenirs are great ways to hold onto memories, but they might be causing unnecessary clutter. You certainly don’t have to get rid of them, but rather store them away in boxes and clear up space in your home for a neater look and feel.

5. Make a designated laundry day

Laundry can be the bane of a busy person’s existence, but you can prevent a giant laundry pile up by creating a designated laundry day. For example, if you designate Wednesdays after work for laundry, then it’s all done and you can focus on other chores and tasks throughout the week.

6. Create ‘decluttering sessions’

Once a month, set aside a two or three hour ‘decluttering session.’ Spending a couple hours a month to do a deep clean and decluttering session will have your house feeling constantly refreshed and organized.

7. Get your family involved

Assign chores to your kids and/or significant other so that it takes all of the pressure off of you. Plus, giving kids tasks and chores to complete instills responsibility and good organization habits.

8. Think about your emotional attachment to items

“It can be hard to declutter due to any emotional attachment you have with the item. If you want to declutter, but don’t know if you can get rid of your special items, create an “I’m Not Sure” box. Toss everything in here that you may not be able to get rid of, and revisit it to see how you feel in a day or two!” Picky Stitch says on their website.

9. Clear out bathroom shelves

Bathrooms are one of the first places to become cluttered thanks to half-empty shampoo and lotion bottles. A bathroom is a place where you want to relax in a tub or get clean in the shower, so don’t you want the room to be clean too? Transfer half-empty shampoo bottles into smaller ones that you can use for travel, or simply just toss them!

10. Assign a space to every item

“Everything should have a place, and everything should be in its place! While decluttering, give a space to every item you have. This will keep items from getting lost, and clutter from building up on the random surfaces across your home,” says Picky Stitch.
