For a lot of people, decorating your own place is one of their favorite things to do, but sometimes you want to add a little bit of an extra touch.
It turns out that home decoration doesn’t always have to be expensive, because there are some clever, ingenious tips and lifehacks you can use to make your home look a lot more expensive and high-end.
The YouTube channel Hometalk recently posted a video about this, which has gone massively viral with over 20 million views. We’ve compiled a list of 15 great lifehacks here, and you can check out the YouTube video at the bottom of this article.
1) Sliding doors
If you’ve ever been into a home that has sliding doors, you just know that these things are pretty damn cool. Luckily, you can easily make one yourself, something Hometalk calls a ‘sliding faux barn door’. It’ll take a bit of work and effort, but it’s a pretty inexpensive solution to make your home look and feel more high-end.
2) Transform your toilet wall
The smallest and at the same time, perhaps the most boring room in the house – separate toilet rooms. Usually, you’ll find toilets in the bathroom, but if you’ve got a guest toilet, for example, why not get rid of that rather bland white wall and add some planks to make it look a lot more aesthetically pleasing.
3) Details are everything
While some people may disagree, there’s really nothing wrong with filling up rooms with cool things and furniture. A small accent table, for example, really adds a lot of sophistication and elegance.
4) Pimp up your microwave
Let’s face it – microwaves aren’t exactly the sexiest things in the home, but you can definitely do your best to make it look a lot more expensive. Just grab some marble patterned contact paper at the Dollar Store and give your microwave a high-end facelift.

7) Give your old closet doors a makeover
Not every dressing or master bedroom has modern or stylish closets, so why not spice things up a little bit? With a little bit of white or black paint, a bit of handiwork, and some beautiful glass knobs, you won’t even recognize your old closet when you’re done.
8) Frame your mirror
It’s pretty amazing how much of a difference a simple frame can make to your mirror – it really makes it look a lot more special and noteworthy. Luckily, frames are about one of the easiest things you can make yourself!
9) Garage door upgrade
Using a little bit of paint, you can truly style your garage door to the next level and make it look a lot more interesting. It might be simple, but it works and gets rid of the bland design.
10) A regal footstool out of an old chair
If you’re into interior design, fur is definitely one of the most popular trends right now. The problem is, furniture with fur isn’t exactly cheap. Luckily, you can just DIY an old chair into a regal faux fur foot still by getting rid of the top half and doing some crafty work.
11) Paint your kitchen cabinets
While this is probably one of the most straightforward methods on the list, it’s also one of the most effective. Want to get rid of those old-looking wooden kitchen cabinets? You’d be surprised how much of a difference a splash of white paint can do.
12) Birch bark candles
You’ve probably seen those very inexpensive LED-light candles in the store, and while they may look cheap, there’s something you can do about that. With some paint and creativity, these candles are turned into absolutely stunning birch bark lights.
Every plant lover will agree: adding some green in your rooms instantly makes it completely different, more welcoming, and more natural. You can even find some cool vases or flowerpots that will fit your interior perfectly.

Ever wanted to make your own farmhouse table? Turns out that it’s actually a lot easier than you might think, and you’ll only need a little bit of cheap wooden planks. Follow the instructions in the video below, and in no time, you’ll transform your old, ancient and scruffy table into something truly beautiful.
15) Adding a rug
Granted, not everybody likes the idea of having a rug in the home, especially for people with allergies. However, sometimes a rug can completely transform the look of a room, as long as it blends well with the rest of the interior and complements your place as a whole.
