Architecture in the United States is fairly young compared to most other countries. Given the fact that we didn’t earn our independence until 1776, it’s rare to find buildings much older than that unless you’re on the historic East Coast. However, as civilization began to spread west, more homes and buildings were built, and they are now some of the most cherished, classic homes in the country.

In Austin, Texas there’s a neighborhood called Hyde Park; it is home to many of these classic, historic homes — like this charming 1929 craftsman bungalow.

This absolutely gorgeous 3-bedroom cottage was originally built in 1929. However, it was recently remodeled, keeping much of the vintage character, to upgrade with modern amenities. Let’s take a walk through and look at the gorgeous craftsman home.

A walk up a few steps leads you to a spacious and relaxing front porch.

Marble countertops with a wine cooler built into the island give this upgraded kitchen a very luxurious feel. The kitchen opens right up to the living room, so you’re never far from family or guests.

The island also serves as a dining area; also a fabulous place to entertain guests while you cook a nice meal. The large cabinets reach all the way to the ceiling for plenty of storage, which often lacks in older homes.

The white color scheme, along with the big windows, makes the kitchen feel bright and airy. Subway tiles, a large sink with incredible faucet, and gourmet appliances are all upgrades to pull this 1929 cottage into 2017.

The kitchen flows into a formal dining area and into the cozy living area.

The wood flooring and molding around the doorways keep the historic elements of the home. The built-in floor-to-ceiling bookshelf is also classic of an older home. The open floor plan makes the vintage cottage feel much larger than it really is.

A guest bedroom or office with vaulted ceilings is right down the hallway.

The light colored walls and decor make the small room feel large and open. Using lighter, neutral colors as the backdrop allows for pops of color with the decor. The original wood flooring continues throughout the home.

A double sink with vintage table legs and a planked wall keep the bathroom feeling like it was built in the 1920’s with a modern twist. Marbles tiles cover the floor, and a spacious shower/steam room sits at the far end of the remodeled bathroom.

A second bathroom retained its classic clawfoot tub.

The large backyard not only features a deck, but also plenty of lawn space for gatherings or a pet to run around. All of the large windows of the house can be seen from the rear view.

The 1,400 square foot cottage has gone through two remodels since 1929, and it seems that it has since been perfected.
