The tiny home movement is taking the world by storm. More and more people want to downsize and leave less of a carbon footprint on the planet.

Even though tiny home living is a dream for some, others might prefer a nice log cabin by the lake — but who said you couldn’t have both?

Lon Holden and Robert Wagoner are the owners of Custom Container Living based out of Missouri; they build amazing tiny homes out of shipping containers. According to their website, Custom Container Living focuses on the customer and their satisfaction. Each of their container homes is custom built to fit individual needs, with quality and affordability as their main goals.

Custom Container Living says that they’ll transform a shipping container into a “cabin at the lake, a detached office, permanent housing, or simply for extra storage.” Sounds pretty dreamy, right? One of their latest creations proves that they can do just that.

Customer Container Living created a rustic cabin out of an old shipping container, and it’s amazing. Half tiny home and half lakeside getaway — just wait until you see inside.

“One day last May my partner called me up with what he described as ‘a crazy idea,'” Holden told Tiny Home Tour. “He said, ‘I have been watching one of the Tiny House shows and they built one using a shipping container.’ He loved the idea of the container as a starting point due to the structural integrity, mobility, and sustainability aspects.”

By the looks of the rustic cabin exterior, you’d never guess this home was made from a shipping container.

Unlike most tiny homes, the structure is not elevated from the ground, and it is not mobile. The pine log siding goes all the way to the floor, blending in with the surroundings.

The fully-functional kitchen is modern and luxurious.

The cabinets are made of birch, and the counters are Formica. There is a small eating area where stools can be stored underneath.

A built-in microwave and two-burner stove are perfect for cooking big or small meals.

Across from the sink is a full-size refrigerator; not to mention a washer and dryer. The wood paneling throughout gives the shipping container cabin a cozy feel.

The living area has plenty of room for a pull-out sofa and small table.

There is plenty of extra storage in the built-in cabinets above the sofa in the living space.

Even though the space is only 8 x 20 feet, it feels much roomier and spacious. There is also more storage located underneath the stairs to the loft.

Stairs lead up to a comfortable sleeping loft; the view from the living room gives a peek into the bathroom.

“The things we found that were important to most people were: Stairs instead of a ladder to the loft, maximum headroom in the loft itself, as much storage as possible, and they definitely wanted a full-size bathroom and kitchen area, even when living Tiny. This cabin incorporates all of this.”

The sleeping loft is big enough to have a king-size mattress; the small skylight lets in just the perfect amount of sunshine.

There is even enough wall space for a television.

So, building a tiny home from scratch sounds difficult. Is it?

“I would never discourage anyone from building their own tiny home if that is their desire. This is a labor of love and can be extremely rewarding. If wanting to be involved in the process is important to you, but you do not have the required experience, a good compromise may be to be involved in the upfront design, both from a floor plan and style perspective, and have a professional do the actual building. This way you still have ownership in the process and home itself, but also have the confidence in knowing you have a home of the highest quality construction,” Holden said.

This shipping container turned rustic cabin is just one of Custom Container Living’s many floorplans to choose from — all of them are beyond impressive.
