Keeping the windows of our home sparkling clean and streak-free can seem like a never-ending challenge. You clean them one day, and before you know it, they’re dirty and grimy again. It’s enough to make you want to throw up your hands and hire a professional cleaner.
Thankfully, you don’t need a professional cleaner or expensive products for flawlessly clean windows – these 7 pro tips are tried and true. Warning: your neighbors might have window envy.
No more streaks, no more dirty window tracks, just gorgeous, clean glass to let that sunshine flow in!
1. Remove hard water stains
Hard water stains on the exterior of your windows can make your view blurry and cloudy. Thankfully, Do It Yourself Divas has come up with an easy solution to combat this issue. “The hard water solution is made up of 3 parts; vinegar, dawn dish soap, and lemon juice. Fill a spray bottle half full with vinegar. Fill the remaining half of the bottle with one part dish soap and one part lemon juice,” she says. Here’s their full tutorial.
2. Create an all-natural window cleaner
Lots of glass and window cleaners contain nasty, harsh chemicals with a strong, foul-smelling odor. Ditch those stinky, toxic products and make your own instead. One Essential Community has a tutorial on how to make a DIY window cleaner using white vinegar, cornstarch, rubbing alcohol (or vodka), and essential oil. The full instructions are here.
3. Use a little bit of Dawn dish soap
As it turns out, Dawn dish soap can be used for so many more things than just washing dishes. For example, you can clean your windows in a flash! The Frugal Girls came up with this easy glass-cleaning recipe using white vinegar and a little bit of Dawn soap. Head to their blog for step-by-step instructions.
4. Easily clean hard-to-reach windows
Tidy Mom created this wonderful idea while trying to clean the outside of her home’s windows. In order to reach high or hard-to-reach spots on the window, she simply used a Swiffer floor tool, wrapped a few paper towels around it, sprayed it with cleaner, and off she went! Her full tutorial can be found here.
5. Give your window tracks a deep clean
The tracks of our window can become so yucky! They accumulate dirt, grime, dead bugs, and who knows what else. Luckily, The Intentional Mom figured out a way to quickly clean them like a total professional. The best part is, you probably have all the supplies you’ll need in your home already – like baking soda, vinegar, and an old rag. Here’s the tutorial.
6. Use an old toothbrush to get into small nooks and crannies
An old toothbrush is the perfect tool for scrubbing away dirt, dust, and grime from small corners and nooks on your windowsill or in the tracks. Mom 4 Real came up with a similar idea as The Intentional Mom (above), with a little bit of a different technique. The full instructions are on the Mom 4 Real blog.
7. Clean your blinds in a jiffy
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
Now that you have clean windows, clean blinds are a must! The good news is, there’s an easy way to dust them in just a minute or two. All you’ll need to do is grab an old, thick sock, dip it in a solution of white vinegar and water, then wipe away! Simply toss the sock in the wash once you’re done.
