Lifelong best friends of 30 years build a tiny town where they can grow old together
What a beautiful idea. I'd love to do this with my friends!

Retirement is something that, no matter how old you are, you should already be thinking about.

No one wants to work all their adult life only to realize they can’t afford to retire, or don’t have anywhere to go when they do.

For one group of Texas friends, they knew they wanted to spend their retirements together.

They had many thoughts of how they would be able to go about doing this; buy multiple RV’s and travel together, buy a piece of land and build a giant house, their ideas were endless.

Finally, though, they heard about a movement that was, and still is, making its way across the country.

The tiny house movement began to show up in the early 2000s and has continued to thrive ever since.

The couples heard about it and believed they had found the answer to all their prayers.

They contacted Matt Garcia, an architect, and asked him if he would help them bring their plans into reality.

Matt agreed and soon the group was on the hunt for the perfect piece of land.

They settled on a 10-acre parcel on the Llano River and soon began to design and build their retirement dreams.

There would be 5 buildings in total, 1 for each of the couples and 1 main common building where they could enjoy each other’s company.

Each tiny house is big enough for a queen bed, a loveseat, and a full bathroom.

The kitchen and laundry facilities are in the common area where there is also a flat-screen TV and a large beautiful table made with reclaimed wood where they can all gather together and enjoy each other’s company.

All four of the couples are passionate about helping the environment and are in awe of the natural beauty of the Llano River.

While they are all retired, some of the couples still have their houses in the city and use their tiny house as an escape.

Because there are times when some of the houses are sitting vacant, the group realized they could be making a bit of money by renting them out on Airbnb.

Whether to different families, or one large group, the idea that their little community can also bring in a little cash is something all the couples are pleased with.

Though the name the group has chosen for their community may sound a little morbid, they all love it.

“The Llano Exit Strategy” is what they call this little compound, they even have it written on their front gate.

This group of friends managed to do something that many people have only dreamed of, a place for friends to gather as they age and enjoy each other’s company.

Jodi Zipp, one of the residents, believes open and honest communication is the key to succeeding with an idea like this.

“Always be honest with your friends. If you can successfully navigate everyone’s ideas for what this can be, this kind of project can be an amazing experience and the perfect way to stay connected.”

This brilliant idea has inspired numerous other groups of friends as well, soon there will be tiny retirement communities full of friends all across the country.
