Turning a plain house into one filled with personality is not a skill that everyone has, but MaCenna Lee definitely has it.

MaCenna Lee has over 900,000 followers on her YouTube channel XO, MaCenna where she shows her talents in DIY-ing, thrift shopping, and designing homes.

In this video, Lee shows how she transforms the plain entryway of her Texas cottage into a warm, inviting space full of art and personality.

The original entryway into the hallway was very simple, with plain wooden walls and glass sides.

Although it’s remarkable that all the materials are original, nothing is striking or memorable about the space.

It was originally an external walkway, which Lee made it into the walkway leading to the new addition to the house.

First, she cleaned up the area, removed the wall’s existing glazing, and sanded it down.

Interestingly, she used a photo and a t-shirt as the inspiration for the paint color of the area.

She based the paint she chose on the t-shirt, which she described as “ash-y green gray.” She began with five different paint colors and tested them all out on the wall.

She left the paint swatches on the wall and looked at them at different times of the day.

Lee also chose the color Millstone gray after considering the wood surrounding the walkway.

She painted the inside of the closets nearby and the ceiling in another lighter shade of gray.

Lee said that pairing the dark gray with the lighter gray makes the space feel cozy and not too closed in because of the contrast of dark and light.

The centerpiece of the entire area is a beautiful painting made by her mom. The floral artwork was inspired by a piece Lee saw at an estate sale.

Lee frequents estate sales, or tag sales of people’s entire homes, to buy unique and hard-to-find pieces.

Lee then used a frame she found at another estate sale. She removed the velvet artwork it came with and used it for the new painting instead.

The painting is hung front and center, but the wall had lots of space on the left side of the painting.

She decided to make a gallery wall by hanging other art pieces beside the floral painting.

To complete the entire wall, Lee brought out all the artwork she had in storage and chose different pieces that would complement the painting.

She also added a table that her mom found at a local pop-up flea market and sold to Lee because it was perfect for the entryway.

She also reinstalled the closet door she refurbished and added a frosted glass window that she also made by herself.

The finishing touch is a beautiful lamp she found at another estate sale. The lamp pulls together the entryway and adds a beautiful detail to an already lovely area.

Lee also added art books she bought from an estate sale which has colors from the artwork and complemented the entire area.

She put a wooden vase, added some natural branches with leaves, and a candle to finish the whole look.

“It’s giving library vibes,” Lee said. We completely agree!

We love how different the entryway looks from its original state! Lee did a great job adding her own touch and personality to create this beautiful space.
