Bryce Langston isn’t a stranger to unique and unusual homes. In fact, he features and blogs about extraordinary tiny homes on his website Living Big in a Tiny House. This time though, his one-of-a-kind home is the spotlight story.
Bryce wanted to live the “simple life” and escape the woes of spending money on rent each month. Having a passion for environmentalism and simplistic design, he decided to move into a Lotus Belle tent.
Lotus Belle tents are a uniquely shaped tent designed by Harriet Seddon and Jessica Walsh. Initially based out of the UK, their incredible tents are now designed and manufactured in Los Angeles. Bryce immediately fell in love with the eye-catching tent and knew it would be the perfect home for him.
The tent is approximately 16 feet in diameter and made of heavy-duty canvas. The interior is simple, spacious, and contains everything Bryce needs.
“I decided to move into the Lotus tent because it allowed me to escape the rent trap and dedicate more time and resources into the construction of my tiny house. I also wanted to showcase another really great concept of alternative, downsized living,” Bryce explains.
The sleeping area, dining room, kitchen, and living room are all in one main space. Serving a stand for the stability pole, it also doubles as storage space.
Furnishings were kept to a minimum in order to reduce clutter. Bryce says he has everything that he needs and nothing that he doesn’t.
The micro-kitchen has running hot and cold water and small 25-liter fridge. All of the energy used for the tent is solar.
To help stay warm on cooler nights, Bryce installed The Traveller Stove to help keep the tent nice and toasty.
Bryce also added a thermoelectric fan that helps circulate the heat throughout the tent. The Traveller Stove also serves as Bryce’s cooking unit.
After prepping food on his wood stove, Bryce and a guest can enjoy a nice meal in his small but functional dining nook.
The tent is constructed on a platform that features a wrap around deck and a small bridge that leads to the “treehouse style” bathroom.
After crossing the rope bridge, you enter the tiki-inspired bathroom.
“The roof is made from an old canvas patio umbrella and all of the walls are clad in bamboo that was cut down from a neighbours property. Inside the bathroom, there is a basin, shower (both of which have hot, running water) and a composting toilet,” Bryce elaborates.
Bryce says his Lotus Belle tent is the perfect place for him to “work, play, dream and unwind after a hard day,”
